That would assume that some in the military carry arms when on base here in the U.S.A. As the Fort Hood Islamokazi showed us, that is sadly not the case.

I went in under Reagan in 1987. They were the rules then, too. No carry on base. Not allowed to have them in your barracks, or base housing (with some exceptions - all based on whether or not the armory was open to check them in/out).

Army brat at Fort Knox in the mid-70s. Dad had an ‘03 Springfield, a couple shotguns, and a couple .22s in a non-locking rifle rack in the side of a closet. He was O-5, Deputy Provost Marshal, so I’m pretty sure he was following the rules. I think he did have to declare what he had.
