Washington Face Protests Over Redskins Name At Green Bay Packers Oneida Indian Nation plan protest outside Lambeau Field for Washington's first NFL road trip of season
Steve Busfield
13 September
The campaign against the "Redskins" name will take a new stage on Sunday when Washington's NFL team plays its first road game of the season in Green Bay.
The Oneida Indian Nation is vowing to take a campaign to every city that Washington's pro football team will visit this season, protesting that the name is a "racial slur". Packers fans entering Lambeau Field through the Oneida Nation Gate will be confronted by a protest against the use of the Redskins mascot and logo.
Brandon Stevens, an Oneida Nation official told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel: "The warrior image is not the image we want to be portrayed. We've moved past the time of Western encroachment and how the West was won, and that's where all the images are taken from when we were a valiant enemy. [Now] We're educators, we're community members, we have families and go to work like everyone else. Having those negative stereotypes takes us back 100 years."

I see your point. But, do you object to Boston Celtics and Minnesota Vikings, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish?
The goal here is not the term Redskins, the goal is to move the ball towards being able to claim that conservative speech is hate speech because it offends people and should therefore not be allowed on the air or in the public domain.
I have killed many Mexicans; I do not know how many, for frequently I did not count them. Some of them were not worth counting. It has been a long time since then, but still I have no love for the Mexicans. With me they were always treacherous and malicious.

When a Virginia Tech professor chastised people for saying “Support the troops”, the university responded that “allowing things that offend us, helps us to grow”.
So the Redskins are actually helping us to grow.
Green Bay will likely have a similar problem soon ... Packers?? — Homophobic!! (No offense intended toward the fine people of Green Bay!)
Washington Aboriginal Cannibals
Years ago, on Dennis Praeger’s show he interviewed someone claiming to be a “Native American activist” about this very subject. He asked Praeger how he would like it if there were a team called the Texas Jewboys? Mr. Preager responded that he would be overjoyed because fimally after 5000 yrs someone would be cheering for us.
“Id be complimented to have a team of strong skilled professional warriors named after me.”
“Redskin” is not synonymous with “warrior.” It’s synonymous with “ni**er.”
“...its the Seminoles who make those foam tomahawks for Atlanta Braves games. Theyre not offended.
“Seminole” and “braves” are not racial epithets! Neither are Chippewas (CMU), or Indians (Cleveland!) Although the Cleveland mascot is clearly a caricaturization of an Indian and could certainly be taken as offensive! These teams were formed and these names given when racial epithets and racial segregation were the norm in this country. It’s time these last vestiges of racist identification were abandoned!
“...Boston Celtics and Minnesota Vikings, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish?”
Again, when were any of these names (Celtic, Viking, or Irish) ever used as racial epithets???
“Redskin” is not synonymous with “Celtic”, “Viking”, or “Irish.” It’s synonymous with “ni**er!”
Solution #1 Leave the name as Redskins and change the logo to a Redskin Potato!
Solution #2 Write a big check to someone as did the Florida State University!
Solution #3 Give the indians blankets. /s
Having those negative stereotypes takes us back 100 years.
No, they are right. The stereotype comes from a time when people pretended to care about Indians. Change the name to something non-Indian related so we can more completely erase them from the national consciousness. In a year they’ll be begging anyone who will listen to name even pee-wee sports teams “Redskins”...
Let’s make it simple & just spell “Redskins” backwards.
The “Washington Niksders”. Kinda funky....
;^)
“Lets make it simple & just spell Redskins backwards.

Please don’t misunderstand my point in this thread: I’m railing against the hypocrisy that cries “foul” every time someone uses the N-word, yet seems to have no problem letting an equally offensive and objectionable word stand as the name of an NFL franchise. When the NFL agrees to name a team the “Nashville Nigers”, the “Houston Hebes”, or the “San Francisco Spics”, then Washington can have its team called the “Redskins”.
But the hypocrisy of the NFL is palpable when no one would think of using racial slurs as team names and then looks the other way over Washington’s name! Such rank hypocrisy makes me sick!
Continuing my original suggestion,
How about the “Rochester Reggins”?
;^)
Seriously, here are some names off the top of my head that would be far better than “Redskins”:
Washington Senators
Washington Founders
Washington Federals
Washington Minutemen
Washington Stallions
Washington Stars
Washington Cougars
Washington Wildcats
Washington Warriors
There’s no excuse for a racial slur to be allowed to stand as an NFL team name in 2013. Not one.
