Washington Face Protests Over Redskins Name At Green Bay Packers Oneida Indian Nation plan protest outside Lambeau Field for Washington's first NFL road trip of season

The campaign against the "Redskins" name will take a new stage on Sunday when Washington's NFL team plays its first road game of the season in Green Bay.
The Oneida Indian Nation is vowing to take a campaign to every city that Washington's pro football team will visit this season, protesting that the name is a "racial slur". Packers fans entering Lambeau Field through the Oneida Nation Gate will be confronted by a protest against the use of the Redskins mascot and logo.
Brandon Stevens, an Oneida Nation official told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel: "The warrior image is not the image we want to be portrayed. We've moved past the time of Western encroachment and how the West was won, and that's where all the images are taken from — when we were a valiant enemy. [Now] We're educators, we're community members, we have families and go to work like everyone else. Having those negative stereotypes takes us back 100 years."

I know a girl I used to work with who loved the Redskins and she got a fairly large tattoo of their logo on her leg. I wonder what she thinks of the controversy.

I can just see the new name.....the “Washington Pantywaists”. Would that offend anyone?
Somebody wants to be the injun Al Sharpton.
Speaking of which, the Cleveland Indians will be next, with calls to change their name to the “Cleveland Native Americans”.

Our country has a history. Most of us like to honor it by remembering it. These clowns need to crawl back into their wig-wams and beat their tom-toms and shut up.
Remember when the old Baltimore Bullets moved to DC? They changed their names to the Wizards in response to the horrific murder rate there. Yeah, that silly move put a real dent in DC crime didn’t it? Well, didn’t it?
To think that the Washington Generals are the better of the the DC basketball teams.
The perfect name is the Washington Red Inks.
Since that’s the way they feel I’m all for removing ALL aboriginal references in place names from the US.
They will choose some metrosexual name to keep from offending.
So how in the world are the Cowboys going to fight the Silk or the Turkeys (that might be fun)?
Please no comments are necessary about the use of Cowboys and Fight in the same sentence. I am a realist.

What’s wrong with the warrior image?? To me it means strong. A fighter. All good.
This outrage is bizzare to me.

The Football Team from that place funded by your Tax dollars?

Apparently these Indians haven’t heard. Sharpton gave them the okay as long as he gets his cut. And obama gave the Redskins a waiver.
