The push by 50 western Virginia counties to secede in 1863, forming West Virginia at the height of the Civil War, was led by a charismatic store-clerk-turned-lawyer who famously urged his supporters: “Cut the knot now! Cut it now! Apply the knife.”
West Virginia was the last state to break off from another. Now, 150 years later, a 49-year-old information technology consultant wants to apply the knife to Maryland’s five western counties. “The people are the sovereign,” says Scott Strzelczyk, leader of the fledgling Western Maryland Initiative, and the western sovereigns are fed up with Annapolis’s liberal majority, elected by the state’s other sovereigns.

We’d welcome them to Pennsylvania. We’d gladly give Philadelphia to Maryland as compensation.
The Eastern shore used to propose withdrawal from the rest of the state, every legislature.
And Western New York!
I am in The Peoples Republic of Montgomery County...perhaps I can apply for citizenship there.
Let the Eastern Shore join Delaware and let Delaware give Wilmington/New Castle County to Maryland as compensation.

I live in WV next to Garrett county MD (most westerly) it is more like WV than MD, the Walmart in Oakland sells much more WVU stuff than UM stuff.
That was back when the Eastern Shore was populated more by watermen than beachy people, if you get my drift.
The state house is totally dominated by Dems. For example, in the senate Democrats hold 35 of the 47 seats (74%). The House of Delegates and the governorship are also controlled by Dems.
Maryland, the so-called Free State, is anything but. Its a liberal’s paradise.

Howard county west of western Baltimore county was solid Republican up till early 2000s , Kerry won in 2004 was the start of Dem rule. This is due to housing development, immigration and massive invasion.
And they are still wiping out multiple forests to build many more house developments here. Traffic is hell, schools crowded, taxes go up and up.
This shows a Balkininized citizenry is easily ruled even if they have the vote. By having so many new people here all different cultures they dont think of opposing even more.
Also in the 1990s Roscoe Bartlet was the house rep(Howard county) , and he was really conservative.

Same thing in NJ. Except it’s a bit easier, excise the cities like a malignancy and we can be back on the path to liberty.
Eastern Shore of Maryland was very beautiful 20 years ago.
As someone who lives inside the Baltimore Beltway and who’s father is a member of the MD House of Delegates in a district that is 2 to 1 Dem to Rep in Baltimore County, I am staying and fighting. We all just can’t move away when it gets bad. Remember we use to have 9 Delegates out of 141 back in the day now we have 43 and might have more after 2014.
Republicans also control a majority of counties in the State. There are positives but if all our votes just quit the State we will have no chance.
