RAF Typhoon fighters won a mid-air showdown with two Syrian warplanes heading towards Britains main base in Cyprus, the Sunday People reports.
The dramatic confrontation came after President Bashar Al-Assads air chiefs sent two Russian-made Sukhoi Su-24s to probe British air defenses, the report said.
The Syrian bombers refused to respond to repeated attempts by the control tower at the UKs Akrotiri air base to contact them.
RAF pilots flying the advanced combat jet were scrambled before the Sukhois could enter our 14-mile air exclusion zone.
The Typhoons which can scream from runway standstill to seven miles high in 90 seconds soared into the sky to make visual contact with the Syrian pilots, reported the Sunday People, which added that the moment the Syrians spotted the British planes on their radar they high-tailed for home.

Then they would get to go back to Syria, in hostilites, they wouldn’t escape.
The Su-24 can carry anti-ship missiles, though.
Then the Navy CAP will kill them and give 0 the provocation he desires. <<<<<<
In fact Fencers are pretty much capable to destroy Typhoons on the ground.
With proper rules of engagement and mission planning they are able to fire at carrier group and dodge response as well.

Which obviously applies to the USN as well. Not all CAP is a response and I doubt Syrian tactics are unknown.
Actually it can climb almost three times that fast.
When we bombed Libya the Brits provided air bases in the UK ( you remember when our “oldest ally” wouldn’t let us use their air space) this looks like a warning to the Brits that their air bases, if also used by the USAF, in Cyprus are within striking distance of the Syrian air force. Although the Brits will not actively bomb Syria it doesn’t mean they won’t lend us the use of their bases and/or “intelligence” gathering facilities on Cyprus.
