The comments you see on stories are heartening. There are a lot more people out there who think like FReepers than you might think.

They must have been as you said. The paper deleted them all and disabled any new comments.

Read the comments at this article (linked by RWA above), about the same event, but with comments enabled. I would go as far as to say they are even less restrained than here.
