Let's try to marry Howell Raines's article about Obamacare's coming, written in 2008 before anyone knew what it looked like, to what we know about the motivation of the GOP-e.
The GOP's Fortune 500 moguls and CEO's have been vitriolically committed for the last 10 or 15 years -- and they haven't cared who knew it, beyond reassuring money-runners of their commitment -- to the elimination of 100% of employer-paid healthcare and the transmission of 100% of those dollars to their corporate bottom lines. Workers and retirees, out in the cold with nothing, Eskimo retirement, the whole let-them-eat-cake, the-public-be-damned Ugly Capitalist Moneybags gig. Democrats couldn't dream up better screeds and bull-bellowing than these guys were spewing from 2000 on, about Throw Granny in the Snow, I'm going to recapture my healthcare costs!!
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to recognize that the Democrats suborned the GOP with an offer to let those Fortune 500/S&P 500 companies accomplish their pipe dream, by substituting Sovietcare for the status quo.
That's why the GOP lay down in 2008 and 2012, and will keep lying down as long as Obamacare isn't 100% secure from repeal. Repeal would be a disaster for the GOP; the Fortune 500 types would tear them limb from limb in a blind fury -- but you PROMISED!
Obama and the Red 'Rats are stringing the GOP along, and we are just bystanders now. Thanks to those 97% straight-ticket, low-information voters and the ruthless concupiscence of the CEO's and GOP political leadership, this whole business is being transacted far beyond our reach.
Well, what’s to wait for? At the next session of Congress let’s get that Army bugler out there to play Taps one last time and be gone with it.
