The left would argue the point but the truth is that conservative America has been very polite in response to the cultural shift that has inspired so many acts of violence against otherwise peaceable people. We have protested, but done so respectfully. There is a limit to tolerance and patience and those limits have been reached.
The idiom of “poke the bear” is that of tempting fate. One can tempt fate - often many times, but fate carries its own natural balance. There will come a time - in the very near future I suspect - when there will be a vast reckoning.
