50,000 people - quite a crowd, but probably of no interest to the media except as an opportunity for snark. I should add that I’m not much of a fan of most televangelists, either. I could probably count the ones I sort-of trust on one hand - Charles Stanley and . . . well, it’s easier to name the dubious ones - Benny Hinn, Mike Murdock, Steve Munsey, Creflo Dollar, Jack van Impe, Paul Crouch, etc. I put T.D. Jakes somewhere in the middle.
I’m not much of a fan of “factory churches” either. I would find it difficult to get a personal relationship with God when I’m sitting in the bleachers with a crowd. But that’s just me. I suspect many of those churches become beholden to their size; worried about losing customers by preaching the Gospel, especially to those who aren’t comfortable hearing it. Too many people want to worship a God they can use, rather than submit to God who wishes to use them.
But these are just my opinions. If it works to bring people to God, then fine. I’ll be the first to admit that being in a smaller congregation does not guarantee “spiritual purity.” The Lord knows full well what a sinner I am.
You put Charles Stanley up as a good example?
He belongs in the other camp.
How could you leave out Ernest Angley?!
