Rather than the casually flung “racism” charge, I wonder if it was specific prejudice. There was an interesting thread posted here last year or so where almost one hundred servers expressed that large groups are the most difficult to serve and that most experiences with large black groups were worse; they are more demanding and tip far less on average. Anyone remember this? The comments were pretty abundant...
Was the the thread talking about certain customers eating 90% of their food, then complaining about it and asking for a ‘replacement’?
Yes large groups of Black people are notorious for being poor tippers. But if the restaurant followed the law then they would make sure their servers wages plus tips equaled the minimum wage. Which means if they don’t make enough in tips the restaurant is supposed to make up the difference in their wages. So it should not be as much of an issue as it is.
The restaurant could also implement a minimum service fee for large parties which is what is usually done.
