I first ran across this song in 1988 on a Friday night when I was somewhat stoned and was watching MTV. (My work took a lot out of me so I indulged on weekends.)
When I heard the opening, I knew that the Moodies had a new song and I sat bolt upright. The long version is one of the best constructed songs Hayward ever wrote. I was in tears by the end.

I still find myself going for my handkerchief when they turn on the counterpoint in the last verse.

The “New” North Carolina certainly appreciates the music. Have a wonderful night MS.B! :^)
