Notre Dame University announced Thursday it will begin admitting illegal immigrants to the school and will provide them with financial aid, saying the move will "strengthen" the student body.
The university had never had an official ban on illegal immigrants but Inside Higher Ed reported the school treated them as international students and required them to have student visas which effectively served as a bar.
"We will strengthen our incoming class and give deserving young people the chance for a Notre Dame education," Don Bishop, associate vice president for undergraduate enrollment, said in a statement announcing the policy.
The university also said it "is committed to meeting the full demonstrated financial need for all admitted students." Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal student aid, but the university's announcement signals that Notre Dame would make up the difference between the cost and what the student and his or her family can afford.

Rudy would stand no chance trying to get into ND today.
Just as Dems want to grow their base, so goes Nutter Dame wanting to expand their football roster to new talent. I’ll be rooting even harder for Stanford this year.
“Notre Dame would make up the difference between the cost and what the student and his or her family can afford.”
in other words, those with heavy student loans would be more burdened now paying for these foreign leeches
Sickening
Yes, it will strengthen the student body like having BO as a commencement speaker strengthens their standing with God and the Church.
Problem with these people AND the USCCB is that they take their interpretation of social justice way over the line with disregard to both the Catechism and the Constitution of the country to which they reside.
Certainly they disregard, then,, their own school policy as originally intended.
The real problem is that any Catholic parent would send their precious child to such a place which is not beholden to any rule if religion or civics They make it up as they go along. Siding with the destructive
Win one for the cartel!
Another reason to hate Notre Dame!
The Homosexual Mafia recently lauded Stanford as one of the 20 friendliest colleges that promote and celebrate their pathological lifestyle.
I won't be rooting for either one.
Notre Dame is a private institution, they can do as they please and considering that the majority of Hispanics are Catholic, it might not be such a bad choice.
What’s the difference between Princess Di and the Farting Irish?
Notre Dame makes it through the tunnel before they’re killed.
Maybe that’s their plan: to use the illegals for sneak plays?
why??
Our (formerly) Catholic universities have no standards in any area now.
Shut ‘em down and let ‘em go the way of Detroit.
"With over $20 billion in funding provided for research and development, universities across the nation are struggling to outline a clear path between stimulus funding, their research projects, and viable job creation. One such case involves the University of Notre Dame.
A report from the South Bend Tribune shows that Notre Dame has been benefitting nicely from federal stimulus money, having been awarded numerous grants worth nearly $35 million. Despite a proclamation from the top White House economic adviser that the term summer of recovery refers to construction projects, not employment specifically, the Tribune report states that, None of the money awarded to Notre Dame went to bricks and mortar.
It barely went toward creating jobs either. Robert J. Bernhard, vice-president for research at Notre Dame, boasts that, The stimulus funding has allowed for new hiring, creating the full-time equivalent of about 90 new jobs. Thats roughly $386,000 per newly minted job. The description of those positions varies widely, ranging from full-time research professors to undergraduates working a few hours a week."
Yep! I believe it! My budding conservative brother in law is one of their linebackers, so that’s my reason. Most of the guys are hard core on the right and pro-capitalists, or so I’m told.
They are illegally here. Why would they adhere to any rule of law or religion? The Latino vote is 72% dem yes even for prez
It’s a terrible idea.
This institution was founded in the Catholic religion. In the end they will have few alumni donors, no religion, no true Catholics and no foundation.
No self respect
If it’s all about money, they’ll fail. They’ll have nothing to offer apart from a less costly state school. It’s why Catholic primary schools ae closing. Nothing to offer
BTW, a Catholic high school just opened here 5 yrs ago. Completely adherent to the spirit of the Faith
First year 20 students, second -anther class of 35, third another 50 then 55 fifth year 68 more. Donations pile in.
If a kid or teacher gets way out of line-gone- too many people spending good money for their children
They’re getting picked up by good schools and the military academies
If they ever focus on money first, they’ll fail like every other Catholic school who tried that Why would people pay for what they can get in public schools
If there are illegals there, they are cetainly not celebrated and revered for so being
It’s bad enough that the kids have to fill in ‘white-non Hispanic (never mind that my parents are combat veterans or that my great grandfather built this place) take our money and give it to the Non whotes’
Hope this is written up in the alum newsletter.
That would be my very last donation to ND if I were an alum. College enrollment is finite — any slot given to an illegal is a slot denied to a legal American citizen.
“If its all about money, theyll fail.”
I don’t think it’s about money. It’s about the strong catholic mores of charity - albeit misguided here.
The local cops should do their duty and arrest the illegal aliens, seize their property and deport them.
Let me guess - they’ll all be enrolled in the “Chicano Studies” program, newly created to cater just to them.
