Labor: Fast-food workers are planning a one-day strike on Aug. 29 to demand an increase in wages from the $7.25 minimum to $15 an hour. But if $15 an hour is so great, why not ask for $100 or $200 an hour instead?

None of this will matter since we seem to be going the way of Rhodesia. Why argue?
True, at least Rhodesians had a place to go. We either start Civil War II or submit.
Rhodesia was 4% white.
I don’t think the outcomes will be comparable, especially in the flyover states.
It's not controversial, it's just plain ol' stupid (but I'll consider the source).
You could only get $2/hour? What a freakin' loser!
Look, I have been at the bottom. I cannot go into a place that pays minimum wage. It is to depressing knowing it pays even worse than what I got way back when. So you are right, lets get rid of the while minimum wage thing. F ‘em...
Agreed. The federal government has no place dictating a company’s pay scale.
That’s the whole point. Anything relying on minimum wage jobs would face price increases, and pass them on.
So welfare is cheaper in the long run, right?
2 dollars a day, in fact.
When everyone else started getting $2/hour, I was bumped to 5 dollars a day.
That was a big raise for me, and I was happy about it.
Once I was old enough to work ‘legally’, I managed to get a job paying $2.35/hour. Now that was money. Partly because the taxes weren't as high then, so I got to keep more of what I earned.
Do you believe people should be paid according to the value of their work?
Should people who do better work be paid more than people who don’t really do a good job?
Or, do you think some people deserve a certain minimum amount of money from others, whether they contribute or not?
You were dern tooten happy about the minimum wage back then, but now? Not so much. You got yours and that's all that matters.
Taxes at the lower end were much higher in the 70's then now. Heck nobody pays federal anymore, and that is bad. The lower wage earned should feel the pain of their choices.
“Have you ever worked for minimum wage?”
Sorry for the slow reply, Yes. 1st job while still in HS was for $2.90/hr. Then I went on to get me some edumication and now I am worth more the minimum.
The minimum wage is for those who aren’t worth more.
$2.35/hr was the min. wage back then. Yes, I worked for min. wage. Most people have.
Heck nobody (in the lower tax bracket) pays federal (taxes) anymore, and that is bad.
I agree.
The lower wage earned should feel the pain of their choices.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? It's not about pain, it's about increasing your value to others. That's how you make money.
Operative word being "make"
Here is the way to explain this the the Millenials, many of whom are stuck working in the lower end jobs due to Obama’s disastrous economy.
Raising the minimum wage by one dollar an hour has exactly the same effect as lower the wage of every other American by one dollar an hour. Why would you support Obama’s efforts to lower everyone’s wages?
The people hurt the most by this are the ones who have worked three way up to whatever the wage is being raised to. All of he time and effort that they have invested to rise to that wage would be instantly STOLEN. They are kicked back to the starting line.
I would love Obama to have an actual press conference and be asked- “Do you make more than minimum wage? Why?” Make him be the “awful mean greedy bad guy” by forcing him to explain ‘well I am worth more than minimum wage because...”
“The minimum wage should be zero.”
Exactly right. Why not a minimum price for your used car?
How about this- we hear every election about precincts in Philly, Chicago, Detroit, etc where the Democrat gets 90%, 100% even 110% of the vote. Why not a minimum vote? Why not say the Republican ‘deserves’ a minimum of 20% of the vote in any precinct?
