Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) announced Monday evening that he will renounce his Canadian citizenship, less than 24 hours after a newspaper pointed out that the Canadian-born senator likely maintains dual citizenship.
Now the Dallas Morning News says that I may technically have dual citizenship, Cruz said in a statement. Assuming that is true, then sure, I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but Im an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American.
SNIP
Because I was a U.S. citizen at birth, because I left Calgary when I was 4 and have lived my entire life since then in the U.S., and because I have never taken affirmative steps to claim Canadian citizenship, I assumed that was the end of the matter, Cruz said.

Bump
Will Obama renounce his Indonesian and British citizenship?
I would be careful about deferring to the DMN.
I dunno. These days it might be good to keep one’s options open.
Quite the conundrum. Is he or is he not naturalized? If he is not and it goes to SCOTUS, will the dikes, Kennedy, and Roberts say he is because of obama’s situation? Libs are going to be pretty butt hurt about this!
This is a likely indicator he will run for President. If not 2016 then 2020.
Any move by Cruz to bend to democrat accusations is a sign of weakness.
I still don’t think he should be qualified for Presidency. I really wish the rule was both parents MUST be born in the United States and the individual must be born in the United States. None of this naturalization business. We have 300+ million people in the United States and have only had 45 people as President and we can’t have strict rules for being President? I would not even mind having the Grandparents be ONLY born in the United States, but in this liberal world that would NEVER pass.
Oh those crazy leftwing birthers!
Ha! Exactly what I was thinking!!
I hope he needles Obama about how easy it is to just be honest and do the right thing.
Cruz has never been naturalized because he has been an American citizen since birth.
Cruz’s situation is not comparable to Soetoro’s because:
1) Soetoro’s mother did not meet the legal conditions for transmitting citizenship to Soetoro at birth. Cruz’s mother did meet the legal conditions for transmitting citizenship to her child.
2) Other than being the son of Frank Marshall Davis, Soetoro’s only chance of being an American citizen at birth was being born in the U.S. Since Soetoro’s “birth certificate” is a rank forgery, his “birth” in “Hawaii” is not established.
3) Soetoro was registered in school in Indonesia as an Indonesian. Soetoro reportedly claimed Indonesian citizenship when applying to Occidental. There are no comparable shady dealings in Cruz’s biography.
I have read all the stuff about the LAW OF NATIONS. All interesting. But there is no unambiguous proof that the term “natural born citizen” as used in the Constitution was intended to be NARROWER than “citizen at birth.” I.e., a person who never needed to be NATURALIZED.
The big difference between Soetoro and Cruz is that Cruz is indubitably a citizen, while Soetoro is very likely an illegal alien.
Ted is American as Apple Pie in my opinion.

Cruz was born outside of America. No one disputes this. I do not want someone born outside of America as my president, even if it is Cruz. Why open the door?
Do Pigs Fly?
No offence, but at this point, take a guy from Mars if he’s an actual conservative and could get elected.
Cruz needs to demand Barry, the clown, show his BC. Barry is a fraud until he shows it.
Ted is American as Apple Pie in my opinion.
He is a good guy but not born in America. I wish he was disqualified as President but that won’t happen in Liberal America where as long as it feels right who cares.
Canada Ping!
