With a .45 caliber legally strapped to his side, Jordan McManus decided to photograph the federal courthouse in Phoenix last night, realizing he would probably draw attention from police, especially after reading about Raymond Michaels experience last May.
But he was still a little surprised when a police helicopter hovered over him with a spotlight as two patrol cars pulled up next to him and another two cops approached him on foot.
They immediately tried to disarm him, but he refused to let them do it as it is legal to open carry in Arizona.
Then they tried to pat him down, which didnt make sense considering he was already showing a firearm. But he wouldnt let them do that either.
Youre carrying a firearm and taking a picture of a federal building, the cop exclaimed, trying to justify the pat down.
Then they demanded to know who he was, but didnt get anywhere with that either.
Here is a portion of the exchange:
Am I being detained right now? McManus asks.
Absolutely you are, yes, the cop responds.
You have reasonable suspicion that I committed a crime, right?
Well, Im concerned
Youre concerned. Are you detaining me?
I am, he says weakly.
Under the suspicion that I committed what crime?
I dont know yet. Youre not giving us any information.
And there you have the reason why police are always demanding to see peoples identification even though the people are not breaking the law. It gives them a hope that if they run your name through their system, they will find a bench warrant and have an excuse to arrest you.

God gave us those rights. We shouldn't hide them, or be afraid to exersize them.

I agree with this statement but, what if the cops were not so “calm”? The outcome might not have been so cordial and he would (if still alive) had a reason to sue.
This guy should be taking pictures of the Judges home as he/she walks out for work. It is what Henry Bowman would be doing before the balloon goes up.
Life is Risk.
We all make choices. The longer we wait to exercise our rights, the harder it becomes.
I think the risk is least right now, and I applaud those who are willing to take the risk that others find daunting.
It is unlikely that one who finds open carrying a firearm, while legal, too risky, will risk life and property in confronting a more out of control government in the future.
No “patina” sir. This is genuine, in the round, through and through godliness. That God has been bestowing real live blessings on me for over a long period, as I clasp my hand firmly in His. And I continue to grow every day.
You are confusing worship of SELF for courage... now don’t feel too bad because that’s an easy mistake to make for a relatively green believer.
But God does not want your stinking pride-offerings. You haven’t made a case how such a stunt furthers the righteousness of God, other than by standing up for pride-offerings. The good book does say that you live in peace with others inasmuch as it depends on you, and also to do nothing out of selfishness and vain conceit. There was an easy way to live in peace here. This was not courage. It was a self congratulatory stunt.
When God had you near your life’s end, you did not yet learn that lesson that He had for you.
More lessons will be coming up, I promise, if you really are His.
You will some day be faced with a choice where God will ask you to step down from your pride. You will actually forego doing something that you would have cudgeled yourself into with the whip of pride. And in fact it will probably be a relief when you do. You will lay yourself on God’s mercy at that point and find that YES! HIS LOVE IS SUFFICIENT! I DON’T NEED ALL THIS GOOFY PRIDE ANY MORE! WHOOPEE! And then shortly thereafter you WILL find the courage that IS courage... the courage to do wholesome, good things. You will have to fight naysayers at that time, just like I am fighting naysayers now. I’ve been there done that... still doing it... and someday you will be there too.
In other words, GOD BLESS YOU JRANDOM... WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANT THE BLESSING RIGHT NOW OR NOT YOU ARE GOING TO GET IT!
So that’s it?
We’ve become a banana republic!!!
The article told us his name. That is how I know his name was not John Doe.
Name one. Which terrorist attack involved involved photography and open carry.
Did Tim McVeigh saunter around the Murrah Federal Building while openly carrying a pistol on his hip? Did he or his confederates even photo it at all?
This is all security theater, when the real agenda is controlling citizens and preventing us from watching our watchers. Cops hate cameras because it exposes them to daylight.
It's to keep THEM safe from US, safe from exposure or embarrassment when they are over the line and out of control. It lets them control the narrative when their actions are questioned.
Ouch / LOL.
On that note, I am working on a brochure for illustrating the Way of the Republican or, if you will, The Tao of Republican Orthodoxy.
If it weren't brochure-format I'd have to add this.
I will confess of not having a ready, linkable example on hand. And if I am mistaken I will most gladly eat my words. However most humbly I relate memories of having read about both such events and such precautions shortly after 9/11. And things reflecting provocative actions of Satan through his servants which didn’t involve exactly this, but other things like carrying around odd items in McDonalds bags aboard aircraft.
Please. Like the slogan goes, if we do not hang together we hang separately. We can’t afford to wall off our sheriffs even if we do find ourselves tempted to wish them to hell during some pressing moments. What do we do when an evil larger than ourselves, AND our sheriffs, comes? Do we want to be hurled into a mutual fight? I think it’s great that you can show that you can carry both a gun and a camera and use them in the right way, and that the public and police don’t have to be worried every single time about it... but oh, let it be done in the right spirit! Don’t import a little bit of Satan into the picture and ask that to be tolerated and call that your rights! Do what you do in God! Warn the sheriff.
This is not the same as the other lame examples that were given. Great public expenditure is not made because someone criticized what they believed to be evil police conduct during a police arrest. Have the same mercy you would want yourself if in such a position. Be firm! Yes be firm! But oh, be fair!
Again I have failed myself to live up to everything God would want me to be. But woe to me if I don’t preach the gospel? The gospel is dangerous because it is news that is more good than we can tolerate. God says go up, up, up to a level not just past our worldly shames but to the level of His own heart! Oh, God loves us. God loves us so much. We cannot stand it. We are weak.
Sincerely,
“Redneck”
It will be very interesting to juxtapose the “Tao” of God (or as we know it, the gospel) here, incidentally.
I said: Do what you do in God! Warn the sheriff.
and, you wouldn’t even have to do that every single time, I bet. after that had been done maybe a couple of times, a single unannounced visit like this would get little attention, maybe a beat cop coming out to ask you what’s up. again, mission accomplished, gloriously. and you did it in God.

That he could stir-up a fuss?
“That he could stir-up a fuss?”
That he could exercise his rights, and not be arrested?
I thought it interesting that in Panama, in the 1980’s, you could be arrested for sketching the ceremonial guards outside the presidential palace.
It seemed to relate to the thread. Some sort of a measure of authoritarianism, perhaps.
I think the point you are missing is the LEO demands that we give up our rights in the name of hypothetical what ifs.
Their demands are not reality based, but empty words to distract us from the attempt to control our activities because they don’t want to be photographed or filmed so that they don’t get caught in dishonesty or abusive violence.
The fact is, that in spite of their warnings about potential terrorism, they have no factual basis, yet the internet is full of examples of law enforcement abusing and even killing citizens and trampling our rights. The ubiquitous camera phones have shed light on their illegal violence.
That’s why they try to intimidate those who challenge them on their practice and procedures to stop citizens from filming them.
And so they do such evil things, and the energy of the evil is Satan’s.
Sap that energy by showing love to your fellow man to create a united front against the evil... and now you get victory. I’m not interested in stomping evil people. I want to stomp evil itself.
And metaphysically... spiritually... evil is a deficit of goodness. Christianity has shown the world both in theory and in practice that there is a named power behind the evil. It’s Satan. And that there is a named power behind the good. It’s God. And that both have agendas. This is a revelation, it is not man’s solution to a purely earthly morality play.
