There was Damascus steel, great for killing people. There was mobile light cavalry, great for killing people. There was also Islam, great for justifying killing people for fun and profit.
Well, Damascus steel was invented in India (probably) and light cavalry was only possible after the invention of the stirrup, invented in China. I still say they never invented anything of use. :-)
