My guess is that more mothers would like to take a few years off of outside work to be home with their children when they’re small—than would the fathers like them to do so.

It's a sad state of affairs in Russia that so many women HAVE to work and CAN'T stay home to care for their children. It's no surprise that your Russian wife is here. Can't blame her. Here is so much better than there.

This is way off base. In the US, married couples are: punished by the IRS for marrying; taxed up the wazoo to pay for an ever-growing, welfare-addicted underclass; and given no options beyond the public schools. “The poor” get free rides to college, while the offspring of the middle and upper middle classes get nothing. I have many married friends who would like to have more children, but are afraid to do so, especially since many of them have been unemployed at least for a time during the last few years. Meanwhile, welfare rewards unmarried women for starting their families when they are teenagers and for keeping having babies through to their forties.

According to some male Freepers, wives who stay home with the kids are "leeches." Many young girls are afraid to tell the guys they date that they want to be stay-at-home wives and mothers. Men now feel that they have a right to the income a wife brings in, and that any wife who doesn't work outside the home is a selfish, lazy leech, and he wants nothing to do with her.

But by all means, continue to blame only the "selfish" American woman.
