My brother had a ball python that once in awhile would do a closed mouth strike on the mice.
[He preferred them live.]
The very stunned mouse would then be grabbed and smacked into things the way you describe before getting ‘the squeeze’.
“Buddy” was a very weird snake.
[He’s the one who tore several rear view mirrors off the car and then wouldn’t let us have them back.]
OMG...my little Lesser BP used to do that when I switched her to larger dead mice.
She’d take her snout and just pound it like a hammer.
She’s living with a breeder now.
Hope he’s having all the “fun” of getting her to eat on feeding night.
My snakes, I just thaw out their chow to room temp and toss it in their houses.
They eat when they’re good and ready.
Lazy, spoiled things.
Three of the Boas “play” with their food for 20+ minutes.
They carry it around, put it down and nuzzle it, throw it in their water bowl and “drown it”, lay on top of it and take a nap..and finally swallow it.
Weirdos.
I love ‘em.

To the victor go the spoils.
