Because we know: higher taxes lead to prosperity. Consumers do not adjust their behaviors, and companies (domestic or otherwise) do not adjust their production and prices in response. What a perfect world. /s

if they would eliminate the back taxes (you didn’t accrues them anyway..) I bet they could get some group to buy a whole street full of houses and live there and make a go of it

You've made it very clear that you couldn't care less about unemployed Americans.

I know many unemployed Americans. None of them are thieves. Apples to oranges. Crime causes poverty, not the other way around.

They’d never go for that. Unless the group was a protected one of a certain variety.

The muni unions demand the money.

My plan is tax neutral. Lower income taxes by an equal amount to the initial impact of tariffs.

The only reason taxes would go up under my plan is that more Americans would be working.

That is a very interesting discussion of tariffs, but 100% beside the point: I was simply stating that, when crimes are committed, the perpetrators are held responsible, not "society," as you do for copper thefts. That's all I was referencing, I didn't say anything about how swell or rotten tariffs are.

Blaming "society" for the crimes of individuals is what liberals do, not conservatives.

"I know many unemployed Americans. None of them are thieves. Apples to oranges. Crime causes poverty, not the other way around. "

The desperation of the unemployed Americans are mitigated by the safety net programs the government has in place. Cut back on those without first protecting our markets and watch what happens.

Maybe, but when government policies result in 25% unemployment, I think society deserves some of the blame.

If we don't turn this ship, eventually those 25% will swell to over 50% and there will be violent revolution. We won't call it crime then and we will blame "government" not "society" though the two are mostly indistinguishable in the democratic republic.

Now you are dancing around the edges of out-and-out Marxism. Don't you remember that "Marx on Free Trade" dogma that protectionists are fond of quoting?

You’re still blaming society for individuals’ criminal activity. When you stop it, I’ll start paying attention to you.

At least once a year a Darwin candidate tries to steal the copper caternary from inactive former PRR tracks....not realizing that they are still energized.

Ends up as a crispy critter and cleans up the gene pool.

To: Logical me

Way to stop it is to warn and monitor all facilities that except copper with jail time if they accept stolen copper, especially wire. Manufactured copper has to be given to a facility to melt down. Go after them too.”
Yes accepting stolen property knowingly is a crime.
I personally like the local laws like needing the free permit from the sheriff department in order to transport scrap unless it is your own? Honor system gee?

I’ve thought about stealing wheel weights off of cars to cast bullets but my momma raised me better.

You might check with tire shops and auto repair facilities to see what they do with used wheel weights.

Get a junker car from an auto junkyard. Fractional car pieces are easier to handle. Most old cars have lots of lead in the seams between body sections. Put a tray underneath a seam, apply a torch and the lead pours into the tray. I've done body work on my cars, and replaced the lead with safer substitute seam fillers (although other metals are harder to work with at a higher melt temp). Lots of lead in old cars (and lots of copper wire). No problem getting rid of scrap metal from body and frame parts. I put them outside for salvage pickup and illegals come early and grab it.

A few years ago, I needed a part for my old 78 Ford. I tried several large junk yards but they all said they sell the cars well before they get that old.

I finally found one way out in the country. He said he never understood them selling the cars. He said they only paid something like $50 for them and it took almost nothing to recoup that in parts. I guess the difference is if you have lots of room.

"Now you are dancing around the edges of out-and-out Marxism. Don't you remember that "Marx on Free Trade" dogma that protectionists are fond of quoting?"

That doesn't make sense. The protectionists quote Marx because Marx was in favor of Free Trade. I'm against free trade during periods of high unemployment. Marx viewed Free Trade as destructive and therefore helpful to cause revolutions.

But, in general, the protective system of our day is conservative, while the free trade system is destructive. It breaks up old nationalities and pushes the antagonism of the proletariat and the bourgeoisie to the extreme point. In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade. - Marx

I'm against free trade under the current scenario, Marx and you are for it.

I don't want a revolution. Marx did, I don't know what you want.

I want to put Americans back to work and restore our industries. Marx wanted them out of work to forment his revolution. I don't know what you want.

I want to be less dependent on foreign countries. Marx wanted them dependent, again to forment his revolution.

I want less government debt and putting Americans back to work will accomplish that. Marx wanted the system to fail.

I want both Proletariat and Bourgeoisie to succeed. Marx wanted revolution and was happy to hurt both.

Good Lord. Compare yours,

If we don't turn this ship, eventually those 25% will swell to over 50% and there will be violent revolution.

With Marx's,

In a word, the free trade system hastens the social revolution. It is in this revolutionary sense alone, gentlemen, that I vote in favor of free trade.
