As Anthony D. Weiner tries to repair the damage left by new revelations about his online behavior with women, one question nags at voters and those who once supported him: Why did he do it?
Why did Mr. Weiner, who already forfeited his Congressional seat and imperiled his marriage, return to social media sites and send explicit messages and photos to strangers? Did he discount the risks to his family, his reputation and his career, or not understand them?
His pattern of behavior is intriguing to mental health professionals and experts on sexual behavior, who while they emphasize they cannot offer an authoritative diagnosis without examining him discussed a variety of possible explanations for such conduct.
Some suggested the indiscretions might be an addiction with neurological roots. Others theorized that Mr. Weiner, a Democratic candidate for mayor of New York, could be meeting sexual needs unsatisfied in a marriage. And still others said he might be driven by a combination of a mood disorder and feelings of inadequacy to seek reassurance about his masculinity from women he had never met.
How an accomplished adult could continually engage in such behavior and believe that he would not be caught would be a central question in any diagnosis, said Dr. Richard C. Friedman, a professor of clinical psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Its almost as if a little child were playing at being a politician and trying to hide something, Dr. Friedman said. The level of denial is so great, and its so incompatible with major responsibility, that the psychological puzzle is not only to find out why hes doing the particular behavior, but why somebody would be functioning at such an uneven level.

Little Anthony’s Imperial Weiner!
“As a health professional you can spot that Weiner has some psychological problems causing him to do what he is doing.”
OK Maam,
Next in line for analysis after A Wiener is...
E. Spitzer, then
Bubba Klintoon, then
Tip O’Neill, then
well, you get the picture, entitled liberals. Whatever they want, they believe they’re entitled to it.
Hey, better put some ice on that.
Until we put ourselves into God’s hands... yup
(since our greatest virtue then only serves nothing with a firmer anchor than our own drifting selves... nice words like “good, moral” can forever be mustered to whitewash this rickety wall but in the end all need an eternal anchor and all have deserted it. it’s just that cases like weiner highlight the problem so starkly it can’t be ignored even by cynical, jaded us.)
without God, all we are is duuuuuust in the winnnnnnnd... (to borrow a hippie era song for something that it probably was never meant to illustrate but manages to do so quite neatly)
NOT intriguing at all.
No more than the go for broke gambler.
Weiner is is sociopath. Rules are made for others.
Weiner delights in high risk. He thinks he can get way with everything. There's always tomorrow and always more lies to smooth his way out of his self-created mess.
Because he is a perv.
Because Weiners are full of pervervatives.
Exactly right. Bill Clinton has so lowered the bar that any Democrat politician believes that he/she has carte blanche to partake in all kinds of sexual behavior and be given a pass by the voters.
As long as you share Democrat voters political views and are a charismatic politician, you can be a complete scumbag in your private life.
Your reap what you sow and Democrats who gave Clinton a pass and condemn Weiner are utter hypocrites.
LOL! I’m tellin’ ya, you can’t make up a name like this guys got!
Again, the guy is just an immature asshat liberal that has no sense of class or decor, or ability to contain himself in a responsible manner. His ilk are only dangerous because their are people with IQ’s that match his who will admire him for his antics and ummmm....youthful zest for sexting. And of course his youthful zest for sexting is something that many of our youth would get a kick out of. Of course appealing to our youth is one of the major goals of of the DNC.
