Oct. 7, 1974 Fanne Fox goes swimming: When U.S. Park Police pulled over a car being driven at night with the lights out, a passenger quickly hopped out of the car and into the Tidal Basin. It turned out to be stripper Fanne Fox. Even more interesting was another passenger: House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Wilbur Mills (D-Ark.), whose control over tax law caused some to call him the most powerful man in Washington. Mills later admitted to alcoholism and gave up his chairmanship.
