Snowden's father blames Congress for sweeping spy program

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The father of fugitive U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden on Friday blasted U.S. lawmakers for not reining in the U.S. electronic spy program made public by his son, accusing them of being "complicit or negligent."
"I am extremely disappointed and angry. I am an angry American citizen," Lonnie Snowden told NBC's "Today" program. "The American people - at this point, they don't know the full truth, but the truth is coming."
Recent NBC polling shows that more than half of Americans are worried about the vast operation that sweeps up information on phone calls, emails and other communications, but just 11 percent support Edward Snowden's decision to flee the United States and release details about the effort to the media.
Lonnie Snowden said those findings show "a concerted effort" by lawmakers "to demonize my son, to focus the issue on my son, and not to talk about the fact that they had a responsibility to ensure that these programs were constitutional."
"They've either been complicit or negligent," he added.

I’m waiting, somewhat impatiently, for the likes of Anonymous and other “ethical hackers” to release a flood of data from NSA and the FedGov. If there was a way for us to search a database of NSA data on ourselves to find out what they have on us, it would open the eyes of the people to realize that they’re not safe and they’re likely more at risk than ever.
I want to shut down everything I own, cancel all of my accounts, and run away into some forest somewhere. This crap is getting out of hand.

I am not a defender of Snowden’s actions. But I do hope that the “truth is coming”.
God Bless the United States of America. May Congress be reminded of the chains placed on the Federal Government by the Constitution. That we can truly live by the Law of the Land and not by the dictates of men.

Agree.
With the NSA (the government) now asking for individual passwords of all users. The limits of government abuse can increase exponentially.
People could easily be framed by the government by planting fake emails (received or sent, fake documents, etc. The data could then be used as evidence to prosecute anyone they wanted.
something has got to give
“I am not a defender of Snowdens actions.”
I am. How else was this information going to get out that our government has at its disposal information and databases substantial enough to execute a coup against the American people?
Congress can’t “rein in” obama or the NSA. Note even the SC could do that, they are completely outside legal control.
With the apathy of today’s Citizens, I fully support the bitch slap Snowden gave the populace on the loss of their 4th Amend. Rights.
I only hope more than some finally wake up.
To be fair, they want the hashes and salts for encrypted passwords. That basically tells those providers that they can get into their password repositories but can’t crack them. To make it easier for NSA to access accounts, they just want the keys to decrypt the passwords.
Problem is that they still have to decrypt them, and they might not get the passwords correct depending on password complexity, etc.
Best analogy I can think of is if you gave a burglar the code to your alarm system but they don’t have the keys to open the doors. They’d have to break a window or a door but could disarm the alarm once they’re in.
Sounds like dear old dad is about to have an accident, like journalist did a few weeks back. When the rulers think you might know to much bad things tend to happen to you and your loved ones.
Snowden admitted voting for Obozo.
Anyone who did that has to be on the wrong team.
As far as blowing the whistle on the abuse of the NSA (with Congress’s approval), I think it could have been accomplished without Russian/China protection.
The bear is still an enemy. We have some others now that are probably worse.
It will be interesting to see where Snowden goes from here.
Like any implement our Constitution is only as good as the people elected to carry it out do such. The Founding Fathers warned against failure to do so. Our elected representatives and courts today are governing like the Constitution is superseded by their own whims for reelection and ‘ change’ as Obama wants or a ‘new world order ‘ Bush1 would have.
Republicans are doing their best to see to it that when the big blowback against Big Government Socialism hits, it will be Libertarian. They’ve pretty much taken themselves out of the game.
No integrity, no honor, no vision, self focused, shallow thinking failures. For which we pick up the tab and get the shaft.
