A day ago, Senator John McCain told Newsmax that the US needs to impose a no-fly zone in Syria to negate Bashar Assads power and force the regime to the negotiating table. Hours later, after McCain and Carl Levin demanded answers from the Joint Chiefs on why the military has not recommended this option, Joint Chiefs chair Martin Dempsey responded that a no-fly zone would cost between $500 million and $1 billion a month and would largely be a non-sequitur anyway:
"The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has told the Senate Armed Services Committee that establishing a no-fly zone over Syria would cost the U.S. $500 million to $1 billion a month and that it might not quell the conflict there because President Bashar Assads military primarily relies on ARTILLERY, not air power, for most of its offensives."
Well, OK, then - McCain will want to establish "No Shoot" zones instead.
There, problem solved.
“McCain will want to establish “No Shoot” zones instead.”
More justification for term limits...
The North Vietnamese brainwashed this man who didn’t have a lot of brain to wash in the first place.
He crashed more planes than the Viet Cong shot down, finished near the bottom of his class and now the Commies have awakened this sleeper.
How about a NO MCAIN ZONE!
McCain - “well, we gotta do sumpin besides arming al-Qaeda!”
Shot down American planes and dead American pilots will cost far more than this.
He crashed more planes than the Viet Cong shot down,
I’m amazed they let him anywhere near a plane. They couldn’t have been THAT desperate for pilots! Maybe he had connections.
So, are we going to shoot down Russian civilian airliners that regularly fly over Syria? And, every time we do shoot down a helicopter it will be on a mercy mission carrying wounded children to a hospital. There will be live coverage because CNN will just happen to be there; every time.
It’s time to walk away and let them settle the matter themselves. There are no good guys here. As a matter of fact, Assad is the lesser evil. The guys we’re backing have promised ethnic cleansing. If we’re going to back somebody, let’s pump up the Druze and Christian militias so they can defend themselves.
ugh. I can’t stand him. Nobody I know can stand him.
Shut up and go away Juan. You are repulsive. I did notice his skank daughter is quiet lately.
His Daddy the Admiral had nothing to do with it...
I mean how many muti-million dollar planes does someone have to crash before they are told they don’t have sufficient skills to fly.
Yup. The rebels actually make Assad look good in comparison.
As he was the son, *and* grandson of US Navy Admirals, ya think?
the infowarrior
His Daddy the Admiral had nothing to do with it...
Ok. Yup, that would explain why he was allowed to fly.
McCain should retire with relative honor while he can.
Levin and McPain - shilling for the Sunni-Islamist putsch in Syria;
It depends on whether or not your father is an Admiral.
His Father was an Admiral.
