From reading the comments, it appears that discharging a firearm is perfectly legal in Chesterfield County if it is done so for a Patrotic Display.

It was Independence Day.

I didn’t read the comments, but I’m surprised that someone would think that it’s legal.

I believe local governments in Virginia are allowed to regulate the discharge of firearms. The state code has this. . .

18.2-280 Willfully discharging firearms in public places.
