Pretty strange that Zimmerman had a fire extinguisher with him.

What's so strange about that? Lots o people carry fire extinguishers in their cars, and certainly anyone trained as an emergency helper or scou leader might have one. In the days before fire extinguishers were cheap and readily available to the public, people were encouraged to carry a box of baking soda in their glove compartments. My uncle grabbed his soda and doused an engine fire in the car ahead of him in an intersection one time.

Correct. I don't carry a fire extinguisher, but I carry an emergency kit with jumper cables, a quart of oil, an aerosol tire inflator/patcher, an emergency flare, and a couple other items. Many people carry some combination of these things.
