Big Government: What Does It Take for America to Wake Up?

Someone did an experiment to test an old tale -- that a frog placed in a pot of cool water, which is then slowly and continuously heated, will be boiled to death. By contrast, if thrown directly into scalding hot water, the frog jumps out. But it turns out that, no, once the water got hot enough, the critter hopped out of Dodge.

This raises a question. At what point does the continuous growth and intrusiveness of government make people wake up? This is not just a matter of theory or philosophy. People are hurting -- as a direct result of President Barack Obama, his party, and the inability of the GOP to make the case for a smaller, less expensive and less intrusive government.

For five years, we have watched as President Barack Obama successfully pushed the following "redistributionist" agenda for building an economy: Take from the most productive to stimulate the economy by redistributing money, often with political consideration involved or attached; allow bureaucrats to pick winners and losers in the market; issue feel-good, top-down regulations that cost jobs and do little to improve conditions; and dictate the terms of health care with ObamaCare, a monstrosity that places one-seventh of our economy under the control of the federal government.

The results are in.

This is the worst economic recovery since World War II. Unemployment remains high. So many able-bodied people are dropping out of the labor force that the "labor force participation rate" remains near a 30-year low.

In 1900, government at all three levels took about 10 percent of our income. Today, government takes nearly 50 percent, or twice as much as people say government should. Yet when pollsters ask Americans how much money should government, at all three levels -- state, local and federal -- take from them, their answer has been consistent for decades: 25 percent.

Why, then, aren't politicians in Washington, D.C., cowering under their desks, as angry constituents pound on their doors?

People, in the abstract, talk about freedom and liberty. But government dependency is so widespread that we accept the benefits -- unaware that the costs are much higher than we think.

Nearly half of the federal budget goes to the three major entitlement programs: Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. All of these programs address problems that the Constitution never intended. How do we know? Earlier presidents, citing constitutional reasons, rejected congressional attempts at growing the government.

In 1822, James Monroe, our fifth president, cast his only veto in rejecting an expansion of the Cumberland Road, even through it stood to economically benefit his home state of Virginia.

According to Monroe's biography on the University of Virginia's americanpresident.org: "Although Monroe personally supported the idea of internal improvements, he balked at the federal government's role in the American System being proposed by Congressmen Henry Clay and John C. Calhoun. They wanted a series of federally financed projects designed to improve and update the nation's roads, bridges, and canals. Monroe worried, however, that federal payments for such internal improvements would expand even further the power of the federal government at the sake of state power. Where would the limits be drawn?"

Economist Walter Williams writes of Presidents James Madison, Franklin Pierce and Grover Cleveland, and how they quoted the Constitution to turn away congressional attempts to spend money because, they argued, the federal government is unauthorized to do so.

Fast forward to ObamaCare and the Supreme Court. Twenty-six states sued over the law, arguing that the individual insurance mandate -- which requires every citizen in the country to purchase health care insurance or face a fine starting in 2014 -- was unconstitutional. But the court, citing Congress' authority to tax, let the mandate stand. In their dissent, Justices Anthony Kennedy, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito said, "The entire Act before us is invalid in its entirety." Further, they wrote, there is a "mountain of evidence" that the mandate is not a tax. "To say that the individual mandate merely imposes a tax," wrote Scalia, "is not to interpret the statute but to rewrite it."

In the end, of course, we get the government we vote for. Given that information gets filtered out through the Axis of Indoctrination -- Hollywood, academia, and media -- how much hope is there that people will wake up?

The smart, the well-connected, and the well-educated will be fine. Their previously depressed stock portfolios have returned, as companies learn to do more with fewer workers. High-end real estate is back, and the top 1 percent has regained the wealth lost during the recession -- and then some.

The very people whom the left says it cares about are hurting. But rest assured, these elites care about them. They just have a strange way of showing it.

America will not “wake up” as there are too many people invested in staying asleep. Greater than half the populous is beyond saving and at this point I would frankly love to see them get what they deserve (and have asked for). They cannot be defeated at the ballot box and I for one have no desire to physically fight them over territory. A traditional American’s best hope is to consolidate into the states we can control and separate from the rest.

Hey, Sounds like quite a few here could care less just so they get decent cell phone coverage and pizza delivered.

The frog is dead, the water is steaming.. bubbles are rising .. yet Congre$$ spins slowly on an irrelevant path to nowhere near the true topic everyone should be concerned about. This nation’s survival as a bastion ofr freedom and not just a home to interlopers, fat cats, racist leaders and stupid political parties, so stupid, they do not see their own hands being complicit..

What does it take?

An educated populace, but the Left figured that out years ago and took over education so as to prevent that from happening (anymore). We know Democracy is rule of the mob (the masses) and is insufficient for large populations. Democracy can work only as a tool or mechanism in part of any government.

But for liberals/Dems it's a way to control people, which is the ultimate prize for libs/Dems: power.

My guess? Never!

Recent events here have caused me to become more than a little interested in the history of Nazi Germany.

That interest has drawn me to some of the films made of that sad period. “Schilndler’s List”, “Surviving Hitler”, “Sophie Scholl”, “Downfall”, “Auschwitz: Inside the Nazi State” and others.

But the film that jelled my alleged mind and brought me to this attempt to relate those events with what is happening here was “Der Letzte Zug” (“The Last Train”) depicting in excruciating detail the nearly week-long trip to Auschwitz of the last Jews forced from Berlin. Confined in sealed cattle cars with no food and water, they plotted largely futile escape attempts as, one-by-one, the weakest among them died.

As I watched, I sought to understand the common thread(s) that set them on a course to their premature graves at the hands of Hitler and his minions.

There were many.

One was the economic destruction of post WWI Germany by the Treaty of Versailles. Its punitive reparations made conditions ripe for the rise of the Nazi and their promises. In fact, some historians believe that Versailles was intentionally designed by those who profit from such activities to sow the seeds for Hitler and WWII. That is, however, a topic for another day.

Another element necessary for the Holocaust was Hitler’s disarmament of the civilian population. Though the compliant Germans allowed that disarmament to begin in 1919 and intensify in 1928, it became draconian when the Nazis took total control.

And, of course, the Antisemitism present then and now in Europe played a large role as most of their non-Jewish neighbors ignored the growing persecution that began in early 1933.

The historical Prussian mindset – of Jews and non-Jews alike – was to trust and obey those in charge of the state apparatus. It goes without saying that that is a more or less universal characteristic of populations living under “elected” governments. After the chaos of the Wiemar Republic, many of them saw Hitler as a savior, exacerbating the problem.

This brings me to THE element that I believe caused so many Jews to meekly submit to the homicidal madness: Their notion that, despite the rumors, whispers and, ultimately, the outright verbalization of that madness by their elected leaders, “THAT could never happen here”.

“THAT could never happen here” is perhaps the most dangerous phrase in ANY language – especially for us here in America at this time.

If you have been paying attention, you must see numerous parallels between Hitler’s Germany and Obama’s Amerika. (Misspelling intentional.)

Admit it or not, Obama, his minions and handlers are doing all they can to drive the unemployment rate higher, causing increasingly desperate men and woman to further swell government payrolls. Hitler put many desperate Germans into his Brown Shirts, SS, regular military, etc.

Though some of Obama’s supporters – the small numbers with functioning brains – are losing faith in him, a frightening number of them still “worship” him and would unquestioningly support just about anything he proposed if the “free” goodies keep coming their way and he assured them that only his – and their – enemies were to be “reeducated” or eliminated.

Fortunately for freedom here, Obama’s efforts to DISARM us have stalled – FOR NOW! All that is keeping him in check is his understanding that to make his final play before doing so would be to put his life and the lives of his inner circle and handlers at serious risk.

If you are STILL not convinced that this fellow has sinister plans for those who dare to oppose him, please view the short video at the link below. (For those with short memories, Bill Ayers is – despite Ayers’ comments about drones – STILL one of Obama’s closest associates and is believed to have authored Obama’s book). Ayers founded the Weather Underground mentioned in the video.

As you watch it, remember that when that meeting occurred, our population was approximately 250 million. 25 million would have represented 10%. Come forward to our current population of approximately 315 million and that 10% would equal 31.5 million of us.
That COULD explain the billions of hollow point bullets now being delivered to Big Sis and her cohorts at Faterlandt Security.

I’m getting pretty sick of this statement.

When will America wake up to the FRAUD in the election process?!? America was in a state of shock after Benghazi Barry was re-selected by the powers that be—the ones who shipped negroes into Maine polling places in the 2012 “election” for just 1 example.
Please stop using this statement, “the government we vote for”.

Please.....

Like either party ever wanted anything but big government. It's all talk. It goes for people here as well. Too many people here and everywhere else don't want small government, they just want control of Leviathan to use against their political enemies.

Let's take the drug war,for example. Plenty of people here use the excuse that we have to have this big, expensive, rights destroying war on drugs because if we don't then those damn potheads will just collect welfare. Nevermind that the correct course of action would be to just stop sending out the welfare checks totally. But no, we have to spend a fortune in money and lost liberty thinking that is somehow cheaper.

Americans don't want small government. They want someone to take their money and tell them what to do. They just want someone with the right letter next to their name doing the taking and the telling.

Biggest laugh I had all day. NEWS FLASH!!! The current powers in the GOP have no interest in the above. They want an all powerful big central government as well. The only problem is they are not in charge of it.
