question: wasnt the third temple the one built by Herod the Great? The first by Solomon, the second rebuilt after the exile and the third by Herod?
Not exactly , Herod just remodeled the second Temple that Zerubbabel built after Darius gave Nehemiah the edict to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem . That is only two Temples , Solomon's , Zerubbabel's and Herod's remodel of the Temple built by Zerubbabel.
There will be a third Temple because we know that the Antichrist will desecrate it in the middle of the tribulation period just like Antiochus Epiphanes did .
Antiochus Epiphanes is a proto type of antichrist , and his desecration of the Temple was only a partial fulfilment.

“On Monday, the eve of Tisha B’Av, a few hundred Jewish worshipers did ascend the Temple Mount, only to be confronted by a hostile mob of Muslims. Witnesses said the Muslims appeared ready to break out in a violent riot before the Jews were evacuated by police.”
If the Muslims were the ones threatening violence, why were the Jews the ones evacuated? See, class? Crime pays, two wrongs make a right, and violence solves everything. Dismissed. Go stab each other during recess.

Let me guess... that was PA police, right? What? What do you mean that I’m wrong? Israeli police would never remove Israeli Jews from any spot on Eretz Israel, right? Wrong again????

And not just Antiochus IV. When Marcus Licinius Crassus marched against the Parthians in 54 B.C., the first thing he did was go to Jerusalem and help himself to the Temple treasures, to help pay for his expedition. He would. Nobody else in Rome supported Crassus, and he got killed at the battle of Carrhae, though the Romans outnumbered the Parthians by 4 to 1. The Temple stood as an empty shell for a generation after that, until King Herod came along and started his renovation project.
