You’re looking at this the wrong way. This wasn’t a criminal trial, it was a political show trial. Start thinking of it that way and everything will start making sense.

It was not yet a proper Show Trial because the State did not hăve control of the jury. That will come with the Federal Civil Rights Violation trial.
