Regardless of this verdict, something needs to change so that self-defense cases are better protected from undue outside influences like this.
Maybe if the issue of self-defense has been raised, and there is a minimal amount of supporting evidence to support that possibility, then any decision over whether or not to bring charges should be made by some kind of a grand jury. Based on what's happened in this case, we need something in place to protect those engage in reasonable self defense, with or without a firearm.

At the least, when a case is brought bypassing the grand jury, and the verdict is "not guilty", then ALL of the defendant's expenses in defending himself should be reimbursed from the prosecutor's office budget.
