Man is an animal. A social animal, but an animal nonetheless.
Strip away the skin-thin veneer of civilization, and Man reverts to being animal.
And to feral youths and the welfare class, human life has no value. The sooner that feel-good liberals learn that, the better for them.
There is the reality of the present, and hope and faith for the future. They are not mutually exclusive, and I think that sometimes those of us who call them as they see them - based on the reality of the present - discount what can be in the future. I think we should all have Great faith in what humanity can be. I also think, like your comments allude to, that we also have to avoid being delusional about the present.
I've seen genuine racism personally, from both sides, and I have zero doubt we can get past it. I've also been at somewhat different levels of the socioeconomic ladder and strongly think that most of us would agree with one another on issues related to socioeconomic class etc. if we could have an honest and open dialogue. That said, we're not nearly there, and the grandstanding of self-interested politicians does not help.
