Not even that. All he had to do was not physically assault Zimmerman. He could have stood face to face with Zimmerman, and called him every racist name in the book. As long as he didn't put Zimmerman in fear for his life, he wouldn't have been shot.

Manslaughter is ridiculous when you think about it, because it assumes Z did something that inevitably caused T’s death even if he didn’t know it would do so, and assumes that at no point did Z act in self defense even when on his back being beaten.
