Although "Bacon Fat," a hit in the early weeks of 1957, sounds like it came straight out of the rural South, it was actually waxed in Detroit at Fortune Records, Jack and Devora Brown's diskery that put out a lot of classic R & B.

By the way, Parchman Farm, a state prison in Mississippi, is still in business.

Would have never guessed Detroit, and I’m from there! My big claims to jazz/R&B fame are that I’ve been to Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Det...one of the, if not the, oldest jazz clubs in the country...and my very cool dad used to play alto sax in his very own jazz band — mid to late ‘40’s. I was weaned on it! Thanks for the info!
