Certainly not the kind of awning that would require a tool (that might be a slim jim) to raise and lower an awning

My thought is what they found 'like part of an awning' was part of the scissor frame of a portable awning. They are shaped like a 'slim jim' but typically a bit thicker. Being a LEO, I think he would have said it was conclusively a 'slim jim' if it was.

My point is, was there actually any awning, portable or otherwise, there? I’ve seen many pics and videos of the area and I don’t recall seeing any awning of any kind. Normally, there are deed restrictions as to what one can “put up” outside of one’s dwelling.

And it wouldn’t be the first time a LEO in Florida might have “misconstrued” the truth and the evidence.
