“That was denied. They asked for, and received, manslaughter. It is not, was not, automatic.”

So does that mean that the charge of manslaughter is a compromise verdict, thereby allowing the jury to know the length of prison sentence, or not? Anybody know?

There is the rub. And why MOM fought against ANY lesser included.

Jury has nothing about sentences. Nothing. And And manslaughter can get 30+ maybe even more. It's not clear to me.
