Absolutely! I've been known to tell my 9 year-old that he can cook the family dinner if he's not keen on what mom is serving us. I explain that he'll need a protein, a veggie, and a starch. Then he usually digs into what mom's cooked.

Note that we don't serve food that he absolutely doesn't like, but if he just doesn't "feel" like having a green salad before dinner that's too darned bad.

Absolutely! Neither of my kids, nor my husband, like green beans. I don’t serve them. However, they do enjoy black beans, avocados, salmon, and many other healthy foods. I bake off sweet potatoes pounds at a time and pull them out of the fridge for quick sides or even just a snack. You should see them, almost five and almost two, with hummus. I have to keep them from licking the bowl! This notion of kids food and kids menus are a joke. We’ve always fed them what we eat. Most of it they like but some of it they don’t. It’s no biggie, but they will eat quality food.
