"During the period of royal absolutism, English monarchs asserted a right to dispense with parliamentary statutes they disliked. King James II's use of the prerogative was a key grievance that lead to the Glorious Revolution of 1688. The very first provision of the English Bill of Rights of 1689—the most important precursor to the U.S. Constitution—declared that "the pretended power of suspending of laws, or the execution of laws, by regal authority, without consent of parliament, is illegal."

To make sure that American presidents could not resurrect a similar prerogative, the Framers of the Constitution made the faithful enforcement of the law a constitutional duty."

Outstanding. So now all FReepers should ask:”Why, if they know that obama is/has commited an impeachable offense by selectively ignoring laws... why did the Congress today pass a resolution that the individual mandate is delayed?

In response to this illegality of the prez suspending the law... the Congress should act to defund the implementation of the law in THEIR Constitutional duty to not support an illegal Executive. Somebody please send this to Boehner and Cantor.,

The answer to why? They WANT obamacare (or the tired “repeal and replace” BS something like it) to be in place to support corporatist cost shifting away from any healthcare and shift that on the “government”. That is why they won’t defund it. The argument that delaying the indiv. mandate kills the bill just won’t wash. They have a golden opportunity to call obamaumao out. And not as much effort or distraction as an impeachment.
