I have some neighbors across the street that I would classify as very friendly neighbors but I would not say they are friends.
I trust these neighbors to watch my kids and they trust me to do the same. We borrow sugar, eggs, gasoline for the lawn mowers from each other. We watch each others’ houses when the others’ are on vacation. We drive each other to the auto mechanic when necessary. I’ve gone over in the middle of the night to wait with their kids while they went to the ER for some reason. (etc.)
However, we don’t spend time together or vacation together, so I can’t say they’re friends, but they’re close to it.
