Back in the day, one would empty the Whippet capsule into a balloon-like device, and then empty the balloon into one’s lungs.

At least that’s what I’ve been told. Heh, heh.

amyl nitrate came in nose inhalers. Handy little things, no bigger than a lipstick, that could be carried around easily. At least, that's what I've been told.... lol

Used to hear stories of chem majors in college making up a batch and soaking the cotton in those Vicks inhalers.
