Ms. Cheneys ambitions reflect a greater tension within the Republican Party as a younger generation feels less reluctance to challenge incumbents in the party, especially if they are seen as too consensus-minded or insufficiently conservative.

What has startled some people here is not just the fact that Ms. Cheney is seemingly trying to nudge Mr. Enzi into retirement, but that she appears to be doing so with a hand from her father.

Ms. Cheneys broader line of attack on Mr. Enzi, though, may be that he is too willing to work with Democrats and not vocal enough in pushing conservative causes. Ms. Cheney, a State Department official in the administration of President George W. Bush, is a pugnacious partisan and has called President Obama the most radical man ever to occupy the Oval Office.

Some good comments here! I agree Ms. Cheney would probably be liberal on social issues and conservative on defense and economics - which is why she is also very likely to compromise her values away over time. We don’t need any more of these types of GOP candidates. They have no core values and no core beliefs - they just think they do. When the pressure comes, they fold. Let someone else in Wyoming run to her right. We might “see” before the election just where she stands. If you are willing to compromise on the moral issues it’s no problem to compromise on all others - the GOP has plenty in their ranks that prove that point. Do we really want more of the same? I don’t. I agree with Pining_4_TX above.
Hate to have to burst your self important bubble, Senor, but “And they constantly obtain anecdotes from two or three people and act like they’ve proven some point beyond any doubt, whatever point they wanted to make in the first place. (The people of Wyoming don’t want Liz Cheney to run.)” is a WRITING deficiency not a reading one.
Ping!!!
Lol, you’re the one in a self-important bubble, clown. The post I responded to and my post represented consistent comments on the NYT’s reporting style and tactics.
Sorry you can’t follow a consistent line of discussion.
The thoughts on Simpson in post 56 were those of the author, Doug Brady.
I happen to share his opinion, though. Alan Simpson was a RINO before the term was ever coined.
Wyoming, however, is the Cheney home state. She may be a shoo-in.
Yes, I knew that; I assumed you’d posted them because you were in agreement which it turns out you were. Keep in mind though, at the time there were plenty of RINO Senators..Brooke, Hugh Scott, Heinz, Chaffee...the list goes on. In the case of those from Maine, RI and NJ I’ll take them, they are the best you can do.
Says Simpson? That settles it then; RUN LIZ, RUN !!!
Yes! I have thought it would be something to sit in the booth next to theirs in a coffee shop, eavesdropping on their conversation...
Yeah, but Simpson always seemed to go out of his way to make cute comments about conservatives.
The guy got under my skin, especially the last few years he was in office.
I get real impatient with single issue voters
(homosexuals - O MY) who would not support public office for a woman as strong shrewd conservative and principled as Liz Cheney because her sister is a (gulp) “married” lesbian
Single issue “conservative” voters and their litmus tests have given us Bill Clinton and obama and will give us hilary or worse in 2014 ad 2016
If the new “conservative” litmus test is whether someone “supports” homosexual marriage, which has now become the defacto law of the land, so be it.
Homosexuality is like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, if someone looks hard enough (and the democrats will ensure single issue conservatives do so) they can link just about anyone to the issue
Interesting development! Thanks for the ping.
I agree, as he did with me. I’d add by the way that he gamed the system, delaying entry into the military to avoid combat in Korea. Don’t take my word for it, investigate it yourself if you’re interested. Instead of fighting, he did an easy tour in Germany with his new bride. I guess it beats combat, but I’d be bothered every time I looked myself in the mirror.
