How could a pilot land a jumbo jet and not be on a localizer and glide slope? You have to report outer marker inbound, and usually middle marker. If you are on an approach to 27 but land on 22, how would your localizer cdi even show up?

SFO has parallel runways, may have been cleared to land on the right runway, but tried to land on the left runway. Probably not using ILS, looks like VFR conditions.

It is hard to explain how both crew members can flub a landing so badly, whether VRF or IFR. But they evidently did.

Most company operating procedures I know of require ILS landings above a certain category of aircraft. VFR does not mean “do as you may”. Yes, you may have the runway in sight. Yes you are cleared to land. But on glide slope and centered on cdi prevent poor cockpit decision making.

The ILS for both RWY 28L and 28R have been inoperative for several days. It is likely the pilot was not aware.
