Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.
Ha, good one!
Our “Stabilized Approach Criteria”: In landing configuration, gear down and landing flaps, Airspeed +5kts -0 kts of target speed, Engines spooled up, (power up and not near idle) sink rate no greater than 1000fpm. If any of the above were not met, a mandatory go around! This was on all approaches from 1000’ Above Field Elevation to touchdown. FAA concurred on the above, of course.
Yes you are!
I assure you, my firemen buddies respect the chief. You know nothing about her, while I worked alongside her and know her personally. You are slandering someone you know nothing about. I’ve worked with paramedics, cops, and firemen who put their lives on the line, and you slander them on an individual basis for no good reason. Now drop the nonsence.
you forgot ludicrous. why is it so unthinkable for so many people that the pilot just screwed up?
Not really...flaps are easily pushed up when in contact with ground...
Maybe “not too accurate” (from Flightaware) approach sink rates here: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AAR214/history/20130706/0730Z/RKSI/KSFO/tracklog
Another unusual aspect of this, several news sources reported that the Coast Guard picked-up/transported one person/body. The extremely hard tail hit ejected someone thru the ripped aft bulkhead??
You made my point. 10 mins into the incident and they were already ruling out terrorism?
I concur.
The emts reported that 190 people had been taken to the International lounge for triage, and that 75 were waiting for transportation to 4 different area hospitals.
Later it was reported that another wave of victims had been brought out, but the numbers of the victims reported by the emts, do not add up to the number of souls on the flight.
Good work.
Seventy-seven South Koreans, 141 Chinese and 61 Americans were on board with the nationality of the remainder not confirmed yet, according to the Korea Times.
A LOT of Chinese, surprisingly.
Slander? Hardly. She shouldn’t get all dressed up in her Michelin Man outfit and act like she personally extinguished the fire. I have a right to post my opinion about a public figure and her very public behavior today.
Slander to say she’s acting masculine — aka butch? Get over yourself.
Slander to post the judge’s own words?
Your defense of someone so embroiled in scandals over the last nine years shows how much you really know about her.
Well, forgive me, you worked with her to set up a radio and telephone communications center, wow...
“Ive worked with paramedics, cops, and firemen who put their lives on the line, and you slander them on an individual basis for no good reason.”
Really? I did that? And you call ME “unhinged”?
Which individual field paramedic, cop, and/or fireman did I slander here?
You, sir, have just completed a precision approach to an unimproved field. You have arrived at your destination, enjoy your stay.

I just pray to God none of my co-workers were on that flight as many of them travel to and from China/SK. We were on shutdown last week due to Independence Day so I don’t know who was scheduled for travel.
I pray I have good news when I get back to work Monday AM.
BTW, my prayers go out to all the passengers (and immediate family) involved in this horrific accident.
Because it's too scary to think about that. One the reasons people construct elaborate conspiracy theories giving events deeper meanings is because horrible things happening due to mundane or random causes is simply too unsettling to contemplate.
I stopped watching fox news because they kept on saying “wind shear”. I stopped watching cnn because they didn’t know the difference between “unaccounted for” and “died gruesomely”.
now I’m watching baseball.
Thank you for this post. So great to have professional pilots here.
