I think that piece of sheet metal in the water, if that was it is, has already been picked up.

Tails on planes just don't fall off.
Could it had been the result of a bad repair of a earlier tail trike ? like China Airlines Flight 611 747 that crashed.
If a faulty repair was done on the tail of the plane this could caused this.
That 747 also had a tail trike incident 22 years before it crashed.

"For goodness sakes the top of the fuselage was blown off, possibly by an explosion in the center fuel tank..."
You intimate you are familiar with aircraft, yet make a statement like that?
There was NO explosion....most passengers evacuated before the cabin proper began burning. There are photos to verify these facts.

Only fair if there are turn-on hormone detectors on the TSA gropers.

The president has been notified for a plane crash? A hole in the wing near the engine? Hmm...

Those were just initial reports from wits on other aircraft who looked over after impact and saw a plane without a tail sliding down the runway.

It was the fire that did the most damage..surviving the initial crash is one thing, but when your stuck on a plane that catches fire and you have 290+ others trying to get off the plane too that is the death trap..you want to get off but you can't because everyone wants to get off at the same time.. Here are the nationalities of those on board the plane just saw this on twitter: NewsBreaker @NewsBreaker 15s NEW INFO: SFO Plane Crash -- Asiana Airlines/Flight 214, Passengers: *61 American *77 South Korean *141 Chinese *1 Japanese

Ewwww, lol!
There was another prime-time special on the other night (I am thinking it was ABC) about the TSA goons stealing stuff... Supposedly because they are so poorly paid (gag me).

Seaplane rating in a Super Cub, back in 1996. Most fun I ever had in my life! The hardest part of the check-ride was the sailing the plane with no engine portion to the dock.
Flying low, slow, and when you descend to land, you just idle the throttle and drop like a brick. Glassy water takeoffs were fun too. You lift one leg out and hold it up while you build airspeed and then snap up the other.

What I heard.
190 people were taken to the International Lounge at SFO.
Of that number, 75 people were triaged and tagged for transportation to SF General, San Mateo hospital, Santa Clara trauma center and Oakland hospital.
Early reports said there were over 200 people on the flight.
People are unaccounted for, still.
A ‘target’ was dropped into the water near the airport around 1:30 PM, I think. I have no idea what the ‘target’ was or why it was deployed.
The fire boat was deployed for searching the water, as well as a CHP helicopter which was able to get into the air quicker than some other assets.
I heard that a group of Koreans had asked for a translator, again, around 1:30 or so. Apparently the ‘international airport’ where Asiana flies has no Korean/English speakers around.
Maybe there are 10 victims at SF general, but there are many more people in other hospitals around the bay.

That’s hard to believe that the plane cartwheeled down the runway if that was true that plane would have been in more smaller pieces and there would have been more people injured and deaths.

It appears the tail was ripped off after striking the rocks....The aircraft landed way short...Probably due to pilot pulling nose up at last second when he saw what was happening..

Tails on planes just don't fall off. True, but hitting a seawall constructed of 2 ft boulders at 150+ kts definitely facilitates the process.

Thanks, Moose4. Steve86 explained that it didn’t cartwheel, and you further described what might have happened. It’s unfortunate some people on the news described it that way.

SF Gen is the only trauma center in the area 20~ more coming to them. 10 critical injured no longer in ER, in surgery or ICU.

The news didn’t describe it that way, witness in the area did...And they just repeated it.
