Megyn Kelly Moving to Primetime at Fox News
TVNEWSER ^ | July 2 | Merrill Knox

Posted on 07/02/2013 12:00:04 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Megyn Kelly is moving to primetime for Fox News Channel, the network announced this afternoon. But to which hour, is not known. Since 2010, Kelly has anchored the two-hour afternoon show “America Live.”

“Megyn is an exceptional talent who has successfully filled and surpassed each role we have given her at the network,” Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes said in a statement. “Her ability to command the screen, delve into the facts and lead a debate is what makes her one of the most sought-after anchors in the business.”

Kelly signed a new contract with Fox News in May. Last fall, before negotiations got underway, Ailes told TVNewser, “We have a great relationship. Eventually, we’d love her to stay here and be even a bigger star.”

“Roger Ailes hired me nine years ago when I was new to this business and he had little other than instinct to suggest it might work out,” Kelly says. “I was grateful to him then, remain so today, and am excited for this next opportunity.”

The move is scheduled to happen after Kelly returns from maternity leave. But it was not announced, and it is not immediately clear, which primetime hour Kelly will anchor. Primetime in cable news typically means 8-11pm. Fox News Channel’s top two shows are O’Reilly at 8pm and Hannity at 9pm. “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” at 10pm just finished the second quarter as the sixth-most watched show on Fox News,

The network also announced that it has signed long-term deals with Van Susteren, as well as with Bret Baier, Shepard Smith, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. Adding intrigue into what may come next, Mediaite reported that “earlier this spring” Van Susteren met with CNN chief Jeff Zucker “inquiring about a potential return to CNN.”

I hope Sheperd Smith moves to CNN to co-host with Anderson Cooper. They would make a nice couple.

Hannity and Oreilly will never give up their spots.. anymore than Obummer would voluntarily give up power at the White Hut.

I’m not sure how Megyn will move to primetime with all the spots seemingly filled up.

Apparently Greta is thin skinned too. lol

She should have just left that alone. Or at lease only posted the first sentence. Could have dropped the “...Done, ok (blah, blah, anonymous sources, speculation, blah)”

Greta. She does good interviews but in the end she always gives them the benefit of the doubt even though they are lying (e.g., Hillary).

I hope it’s not Greta. Her show is the best in prime time. No fluff, just interviews. She goes right to the Hill and interviews people you never see on Hannity or Oreilly. She covers things like Benghazi and the IRS scandal cover to cover. If not for Greta, we’d never see people like Trey Gowdy etc.

Hopefully, Ailes consider 7pm Primetime. Because I never watch FNC at 7pm (usually switch to TBS and watch Seinfeld for an hour).

I read that Greta may be going back to CNN...that she personally contacted Zuckerman. Who knows?

Doesn't look like anyone is leaving prime time. And if Greta signed a new long-term deal, there was no reason to include that last sentence.

They might add a new show and start their rerunsof earlier programs later than they do now.

Lou Dobbs on Fox Business is an excellent 7 p.m. alternative to Shep.

From the way it’s phrased, I don’t assume that Megyn Kelly is being given her own primetime show, just that she’s moving to a regular role on a primetime show. I don’t keep up with ratings, but are O’Bloviator’s ratings going down (that would make me smile)? I’ve seen Kelly filling in for him quite a bit when he’s gone, and fairly frequently as a contributor when he’s there. It could be that she was being given an extended audition on that show with an eye towards an expanded presence, maybe something like a daily feature?

I really hope Fox News isn’t getting rid of Greta’s show. It’s one of the few segments I watch fairly often, and without retching. Damn, that probably means they’re letting Greta go, right?

As for all the posters calling for Shemp to get the hammer, the article (if it’s to be believed) specifically states “primetime”. Shemp is not primetime.

I love how she’s been using Griff Jenkins to confront these IRS bastards after their hearings.

After about the 5th time of him following someone down the hall with a microphone I thought.. hey yeah I like that!

Sheperd Smith moves to CNN to co-host with Anderson Cooper

Does Anderson Cooper make every weekend a three-dayer in Key West like Shemp?

Not necessarily...I’d say Megan gets the 10 pm slot, and Greta moves to 11 pm to midnight, until her contract expires. The 11 o’clock hour is currently filled by reruns of The O’Reilly factor, and there are advantages in having a “live” show at that hour on a busy news day.

One more thing: Ailes can move Greta to 11 and still honor her contract stipulation of having a prime time show. Afterall, 11 pm eastern time is 8 pm on the west coast.

It will be interesting to see how Mr Ailes fills Megan’s old slot at 1 pm. The show that aired in that time period before Megan, anchored by Trace Gallagher and Martha MacCallum, was a flop, at least by FNC standards. There have been some rumors that Bill Hemmer may get a solo shot to replace Megan Kelly, or that someone from “The Five” may get their own show.

OReilly is gone half the time. And hhis show has really deteriorated. He’s the weak spot in the line up after Shep.

Have you seen Megan Kelly swing a bat? She’s an athlete and smart.

She is AWESOME on the Fox News softball team. She's better than Hannity. Believe it or not Geraldo does well too. Ted Baxter does better pitching than he does anything else.
