Jeb Bush: A Republican Case for Immigration Reform

Now that the Senate has passed comprehensive immigration reform, the action shifts to the House of Representatives. Here the GOP's informal "Hastert Rule" requires Speaker John Boehner to have majority support among Republicans before he will bring legislation to the floor for a vote. That means an immigration bill will need a far greater share of Republican House members than the Senate version received (where fewer than one-third of Republicans voted "aye").

This is a tall order. But it is one to which House Republicans should respond.

No Republican would vote for legislation that stifled economic growth, promoted illegal immigration, added to the welfare rolls, and failed to ensure a secure border. Yet they essentially will do just that if they fail to pass comprehensive immigration reform—and leave in place a system that does all of those things.

To grow economically, the nation needs more young workers, as the population is aging and its growth is slowing. Yet only 13% of the immigration visas each year are issued for work or special skills. Nearly two-thirds go to relatives of existing residents, under an expansive definition of family preferences that includes not just spouses and minor children but parents, siblings and unmarried adult children.

Hey Jeb, they just did that in the Senate.

Don’t piss on my leg and tell me its raining.

You and your country clubber pals won’t and don’t have to deal with the crime wave, higher taxes and wage depression this garbage legislation will bring.

Yet they essentially will do just that if they fail to pass comprehensive immigration reform—and leave in place a system that does all of those things.

It does those things because the current laws are not being enforced and with little bammy, are being totally ignored.

So the answer is to create a new set of "laws" that removes the penalties of the old laws and presto, we will then have a "system" that works?

The new system simply makes it totally legal to allow the criminal behavior?

I’ll risk the flamage due to come my way by saying something positive about Jeb.

My caveat is that I *do not* agree with the current immigration bill and believe that if the House is to do ANYTHING on the subject, it must be a piece meal approach. One bill sent to the Senate dealing ONLY with security. If/when that is resolved in favor of a tightened border and ONLY after that goal is accomplished (that’ll be after the Clown occupying the Oval Office right now is GONE) then we take up the status of current illegals....okay?

Now, with that caveat, I’ll say this for Jeb...he was a very good governor in Florida. He served two terms, did a better job than most governors...and the state only went downhill when the clown Charlie Crist took his place.

Jeb is a decent chief executive, focused in the years since on education, and would be a better president (in my opinion) than his brother.

Although I do concur with most here that dynasties like this are not necessarily healthy for the Republic, and I would like to see a non-Clinton and non-Bush on the ballots next cycle.

I guess I’m just saying Jeb isn’t a demon, that’s all. And I saw him govern.

Jeb, tell that to my triplets, who graduated with HONORS in May, 2012, from their respective universities, in very marketable majors. You see, our “very fertile” family can’t find full-time work, with benefits, but wake up every day at 4am to wait at the pick-up spots where contractors will gab some cheap labor. But my kids never get picked up. In fact, the illegals there openly mock my kids, calling them names like “Gringo”, then laughing and saying things like, “Whats matter, Gringo can no find job?” It’s pathetic.

And what “Skin in the game” has this “President” ever had? Did he serve in the military? Did anyone in his family ever serve? Did anyone in his family ever serve and take a bullet for the USA? The answer is a long and emphatic NO NO AND NO.......

So you are correct, this President has not had any skin in the game that is the US of A, and he does not know or appreciate OUR culture and OUR heritage.

Exactly. This guy Jeb Bush is supposedly one of the “smartest” the RINO have to offer, yet he comes out and disparages Americans, saying we are not as fertile, not as productive, as our illegal immigrants? Who in their right mind would vote for somebody that openly and freely mocks them? It is extremely difficult to understand why anybody would see this Jeb Bush as a bright bulb given these comments. He has not offered a “sincere” apology for making these comments,,so look, he believes what he said. RINO, you need to do better than this.
