President Barack Obama's trip to Africa has largely been ignored by the U.S. media, and for good reason: it seems to have no real purpose.
While attention to Africa is long overdue, the president is announcing no new strategy, concluding no significant agreements--merely announcing a new investment in African power generation, which African companies are arguably capable of funding and carrying out themselves.
Much of his trip to Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania consists of sightseeing with his family--and an entourage of 1,000, at a cost to taxpayers of $60 to $100 million.
Consider the reason Obama gave reporters about why he is visiting Cape Town on Sunday:
His schedule on Sunday begins with a flight to Cape Town and then a helicopter ride to the museum on Robben Island.
Obama visited when he was a senator but this time is bringing his family. He said he's eager to teach them about Mandela's role in overcoming white racist rule, first as an activist and later as a president who forged a unity government with his former captors.

it would be nice if they’d do something permanent to all the SS waffentroops as well as long as they’re there.
According the the white hut website they are due back July 2nd...
Even this group of arrogant Marxist cannot be THAT tone deaf to be out of the country on July 4th...
I'm sure they rather be elsewhere then celebrate American independence...but duty calls...
I'm sure he will announce some unconstitutional E.O. just to piss us off...
0bama is rounding up more RINOS.
Living large on our dime, the king and queen of 100% worthless people.
Excellent point. He says things that be cannot say directly to the American people. For example, in Ireland he said there shouldn’t be Protestant schools and Catholic schools, it causes social division. What he’s really saying is that in America there shouldn’t be private religious schools or homeschooling, it causes social division. Then he expects his followers to carry his water for him.
He could have stayed here, watched some MSNBC...
...AND HAD A SNACK...
...and saved millions...
Exactly right on all points. Ethiopia was an exporter of food, too, until the commies killed Haile Sailase.(sp)
Here is another thought. What MSM WH correspondent in their right minds would author a critical piece on these tax-payer funded junkets? Why risk being banned or far worse fired and miss out on the next field trip to the Eco-friendly unicorn farm in Tahiti! It’s ALL good!
Amen, knew I couldn’t list them all. We’re beyond the ballot box now...
there is no logical explanation
except maybe he is afraid of the press seeing the squalid conditions they live in (despite his lectures to us about paying our “fair share”, barry is no brother's keeper)
or that some ululating village may welcome him back to his birf place and present him with the bucket his mother squatted over to drop him
Seeking asylum, hopefully.
So how does the House let Obama give 7B of OUR money to Africa? How is it that he is free to do this? Don’t they have to approve?
I bet Valerie Jarrett runs things all the time he’s proved he’s to stupid to run anything.
She has to get him out of town to make sure the next set up doesn’t get screwed up.
Plain as day, he is redistributing US wealth to Africa. At least it’s not one of his corporate crony campaign contributors, a union or community organization, like most of his redistributions have been in the past.
“So how does the House let Obama give 7B of OUR money to Africa? How is it that he is free to do this? Dont they have to approve?”
Since when has the Boehner/Republican House turned down any appropriation Barry demands? If the Republican House was doing its job it would have passed a balance budget, with appropriations in line with revenue, sent it to the Senate, and gone home. If Harry Reid’s Democrats declined to pass it, the federal government would have shut down until they did. Unfortunately Boehner and the Republicans choose to play in a charade where they talk tough and then roll over and vote for the continuing resolutions.
By design the House holds the purse strings for the federal government. The founders wanted the representatives up for reelection every 2 years to stand up to irresponsible spending. The Republicans in the House choose not to exercise the power. Therefore they are enablers of the madness and just as responsible for it as Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and the rest of the big spenders.
This should not be news to anyone. George W. Bush couldn’t find his veto pen when it came to spending. As a result the deficit doubled under his watch. When Republicans controlled the House and Senate under Hastert and Frist, they went on a spending spree attaching earmarks to every bill.
For over a decade the Republicans have zero credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility. They are all talk and no action. As long as the American people vote either Democrat or Republican they can be assured the nation’s debt burden will continue to build.
.according to his speech today he was promising them billions of our dollars to help them get clean energy in freshwater to the sub-saharan African area. We need to be spending your money here in the US not giving away donations to the world when we are broke. Where is our Senate and Congress in putting the brakes on his dictatorship.
WHY? How about we take of the USA first?
...has he made any promises to allow more Kenyans political refuge in the US, like maybe 200,000 to get a easy path to citizenship?. More Somalis seeking voting rights in the US?
