Gotta love the public court of opinion.
In my 20 years I learned that from brown bar to bird colonel, officers are promoted based on competence. From 1-star to four-star, officers are promoted on their political contacts and their ability to bring money into their branch of service.
Sounds like the general just couldn’t resist getting credit for his role in this in the NY Times. I expect it was anonymous programmers and agents on the ground who actually made the operation work.
Most general officers do not contribute to political campaigns. I’m sure that this is a distinct disadvantage when the politicians start looking for scapegoats. the civilian operatives inside the beltway know better.
Most general officers bring home the bacon to certain programs that companies benefit from, and ensure that certain districts really make big money. Go past aircraft, tanks, and ships....from radars, to missiles, to telephone contracts. That’s how you make your grade and points.
Does this mean panetta, hillary and obama are about to be arrested?
I think that you are confusing general officers with politicians and their co-conspirators. Most general officers are entirely too naive to understand how Washington really works.
true, in its own way. Every time D.C. needs an escape path or a scapegoat ... blame a General.
I’ve sat and watched general officers rig up contract wins and the bids. They are brilliant at manipulating the whole budget game. I watched an Air Force one-star who retired....get hired to ensure a win on a contract...four months later...the contract went to another company...and it took four hours for the company to fire the guy. It was pretty quick and simple, you make results for you via your buddies or you walk the street.
Israel made Stuxnet. The Obaba admin has been flailing about trying to grab some credit. Israel has sat back, snickered, and done the next round.

Maybe now, but not in the not too distant pass.
I worked with one named Gordon Sumner. He was very conservative and knew Washington.
Who knows ... Snowden might be everything and nothing. Mossad? Who knows.
Pentagon isn’t called the “Puzzle Palace” for nothing
TT
It’s awful. I don’t believe ANYTHING this administration says. Normally I’d think the general is an SOB and he knows better and should be charged and tried. But with these people in charge - I don’t believe it.
Interesting and odd who his lawyer is too. .
