Just how much of a hole did Paula Deen dig for herself?
With the Food Network's announcement that it would not be renewing its contract with the Paula's Home Cooking star, along with QVC distancing itself from the celebrity chef and Smithfield Foods cutting ties with her altogether after she admitted to past use of the N-word and other hurtful remarks, it would seem that Deen's culinary empire is currently up in flames.
But her bank account isn't under as much fire as one might think. Sure, her ranking as Forbes' No. 4 highest-earning celeb chef is definitely at risk...but all is not lost just yet.
"I would estimate the loss of Food Network and Smithfield to be pretty huge," Forbes staff writer Caleb Melby, who estimates that Deen has taken a post-scandal hit of $3 million to $4.5 million, tells E! News

Of course, you could have an interesting time defining the standards to let each race win by its own rules. I tend to think racism is measured by a hostility or bias that is not justified in fact or actual experience. Multiplied by the intensity of feeling, and by the frequency of thinking about such issues.

Maybe blacks should stop using it first, lead by example.

Have some coffee and clear your head please, “paid slavery” is a contradiction, slavery is being held in captivity and forced to work long and hard while being allowed only enough food, clothing and shelter to survive. Slavery is the exact opposite of what is going on. I grew up on a little farm in South Carolina and started working as soon as I was able to do a simple chore like carry one piece of firewood at a time. By the time I finished eighth grade I was a seasoned farm hand, I started walking behind the plow at around ten years, cut firewood with an axe as soon as I could lift one, pulled one end of a five and a half foot crosscut saw and the list goes on. I did all this for food, clothing shelter and the chance to go to school and church and now I am told I should pay “reparations” to descendants of slaves? Helen Hunt is in charge of reparations as far as I am concerned. I owned no slaves, my parents owned no slaves, my grandparents owned no slaves, my great-grandparents including my great-grandfather who was a confederate soldier owned NO SLAVES. Before that I can’t say but I doubt it seeing as how I have only heard of maybe three or four black people in my entire life who carry some version of my surname. I have never met a single one in
South Carolina who carries the name.

It’s true. My mom was raised in Tennessee and she always called black people niggers, not out of meanness or anything but that is just what blacks were called then.
My aunt did the same, drove a mail route through niggertown, and thought nothing of referring to them as niggers, because it is just what blacks were called then.
Look at the literature of the time. Major magazines had stories in them in which the word nigger was used often as a reference to colored people of Africa, India, South Seas.
H P Lovecraft’s story THE RATS IN THE WALLS has a cat named Niggerman,
The South Sea stories of John Russell uses the term quite often.
In the movie, THE DAM BUSTERS, the officer in charge has a black dog named Nigger.
I myself was not raised that way as I am originally from the Mountain States. My dad always impressed on us to never call Latinos “Mexicans” but Spanish, and I never knew there were so many nicknames for different races till I was in the military back in 1966.
I found out years ago, that Navajo Indians hate blacks.
I actually was watching The Germans episode of Fawlty Towers the other night, and I remembered the scene where Major was talking about when he took a date to a Cricket Test Match...

Yes, that’s just the way it was back then. We mostly heard negro, that was proper for a black person.

Upon reading PD deposition, I don’t think she said anything wrong. She used what is now known as the n bomb 30 years ago, and she admired the professional black men who were servers at a wedding. A job I’m sure the black men choose and were proud of their looks and professionalism.
She’d be just as doomed if she wanted a bunch of crackers serving at a wedding;)
She’s liberal but she is old, white, and probably clinging to her guns and Bible. Southern lady. She just said mooch ate like a pig on her show.

Well Smithfield is a small loss as the ChiComs are buying it. I won’t be buying anymore Smithfield products. The Food Channel will probably take bigger hit than Paula as there are a lot of ticked off Deen fans that will boycott.
The whole thing was much ado about nothing.

I heard a “Northern Mexican” talking about “Southern Mexicans” like they were some sort of vile bug infestation. Really close to a call for extermination — from a woman no less. I was shocked. This woman also expressed disdain for everything White American (she’s in the USA, WORKING on a B1 TOURIST VISA.) I no longer trust any hispanic.
