SAVANNAH, Ga. Watching Paula Deens cooking show was a weekend ritual for Marilynne Wilson, who says shes furious at the Food Network for dumping the comfort-food queen after she acknowledged using racial slurs in the past.
I was shocked. I thought shed get a fair trial, Wilson, a nurse from Jacksonville, Fla., said Saturday after stopping to buy souvenirs at the gift shop Deen owns next to her Savannah restaurant. I think the Food Network jumped the gun.
A day after announcing that its dropping Deen from its roster of celebrity cooks, the cable network was served heaping portions of Southern fried outrage by her fans.
Angry messages piled up Saturday on the networks Facebook page, with many Deen fans threating to change the channel for good. So good-bye Food Network, one viewer wrote. I hope you fold like an accordion!!!
The decision to drop Deen, whose daytime shows have been a Food Network fixture since 2002, came two days after disclosure of a recent court deposition in which Deen was asked under oath if she had ever used the N-word. Yes, of course, 66-year-old Deen said, though she added, Its been a very long time.
Deen and her brother are being sued by a former manager of their restaurant who says she was harassed and worked in an environment rife with innuendo and racial slurs.
Wilsons friend Debbie Brown said the Food Network is basically convicting Deen. They should have waited until it goes to court, she said.
Deen issued a videotaped apology Friday in asking fans and critics alike for forgiveness. It had been posted online for about an hour when the Food Network released a terse statement that it will not renew Paula Deens contract when it expires at the end of this month.

No. However, that is not the case with Deen.
I have many, but they do not engage in demeaning activity and share my moral and political views.
Not only is she a fake but if you ever watched one of her older shows she was ALWAYS making sexual remarks about something even while her sons were present. The Food Network knows all about Paula Deen and her antics and obviously had no problem with her until she admitted to the N word.
Yep, a white person saying something considered racist, is the only unforgivable crime left in this country.
All things equal, if she never said the N-word, this story gets no play, whatsoever.
Certainly appears to be a railroad job by the Food Network.
Paula should have been warned about apologizing to the so called Special People.
Give an inch and they'll still hang you from the lamp post. Damned if you do.
All gay....all the time. I’ve just about given up on watching any of the cooking chans because of all the queens.
They never use the word whitey — unless it’s prefixed by “kill”
“Wait til she goes to court” — accused of breaking which law, is it? And that law obviously applies to some and not to others? To women but not to men? To white folks but not to black folks? To non-commedians but not to commedians? And I hear it was 30 years ago? So, in the case of ‘having your feelings hurt’ and ‘being offended,’ there are absolutely NO statutes of limitations. Because so-and-so’s feelings hurt for 30 years?
Oh, I see .../s
Here’s an interesting question: what is the statue of limitations on having said anything racist?
If you're white, there is no statute of limitations.
Not true. It is also unforgivable to give a pregnant woman the choice that allows her baby to be born alive.
I find use of “the ‘N’ word” to be extremely offensive.
There is nothing wrong with “use” of the original word, yes it’s crude and insulting but no word is worthy of being banned. not in a free country.
Politically Correct is Neither.......Take back your language and ENFORCE THE BILL OF RIGHTS...It’s the Law! Buncha’ Sheep.
Have you ever asked them if they used the N word?
I find use of the N word to be extremely offensive
Like the Rickey Clemons scandal at Missouri a few years back where the President’s wife and Asst Athletic Director’s wife used the term “crackers” often. Washington State and the Big 12 Conference nevertheless hired both husbands away, accompanied by the wives.
But Paula Deen does what everyone else has done, everyone? Makes a racial slur or tells an ethnic joke? Nope, can’t have that.
The next time you hear a black calling another black the N word maybe you should tell him? LOL
I am mature enough to make my own decisions, thank you very much, and can choose to listen or hit the channel changer. Besides, it is so one sided. There was more media outrage over George Bush's 30 yr. old drunk driving ticket than over Al Gore's smoking pot in much more recent years; More outrage over a charge of using the dreaded N word in past times, and in someone's own place than over that rapper who jumped up on the stage and berated/attacked the white celeb who got an award he felt should have been Beyonces.
When is enough enough? I have had enough and am sick of the overuse of "racism" "racist" "radical right winger" and other overused phrases used wholely to influence attitudes in this country, which on the left stink of double standards, race privilege, victimhood, and false tolerance and care for the "little people".
It is time to get real in OUR lives. Washington, except for a few notable exceptions, care only for perpetuating their own privileges and power.
I want to know when someone is going to jail for the IRS scandal; when someone is going to have to pay with indictment, infamy, and prison for lying about Benghazi--Yes, Hillary, you arrogant slut, IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Unless we, the people, get oiff the couch and make our voices heard, we are going to live in a total police state. The IRS is training field agents in firearms to come to our homes and search, question, etc.
It doesn't really matter about what Paula Dean said. We have ALL said something in a personal moment we would be ashamed of if a spotlight shined on the statement alone without showing context .
The d@#n Congress is giving our country away, aiding terrorists, denigrating Christians, and we care about the N-word. Let that take care of itself and stop govt. overreach.
