The bipartisan Senate "Gang of Eight" Thursday will likely present an agreement that would see increased border security provisions in the immigration bill.
The agreement was made to secure 70 votes needed to pass the controversial immigration reform bill, ABC News reported.
A source in Washington told ABC the agreement includes a huge increase in border personnel and an increase in fencing.
The "Gang of Eight" includes Republicans Marco Rubio of Florida, John McCain and Jeff Flake of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Democrats Chuck Schumer of New York, Bob Menendez of New Jersey, Michael Bennet of Colorado and Dick Durbin of Illinois.
Republican Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and John Hoeven of North Dakota are expected to introduce their alternative to the bipartisan immigration bill later Thursday, Politico reported. A group of Republicans is expected to then co-sponsor the legislation.
Meanwhile Sen. Rubio spoke about the gang's bill and the border security provisions with Fox News on Wednesday night, Politico said.
"This is not about anti-immigrants or anything or trying to be tough on anybody," Rubio said. "We are a sovereign country. Every sovereign country in the world has the right to protect its borders and who has access to the country."
Good point.
BTW ...Just saw some congressman submitting amendment to Immigration Bill which would 'include' people displaced from other countries because of Global Warming!!!!
We will never have secure borders....don't need them...the flood gates are fully open, by invitation!
