It is entirely possible that Monsanto corporately has done more for the global good supply than anyone since Borlaug. I suspect in a rational world they would and should be celebrated for this.

True that. Borlaug was a big fan of Monsanto, and many of the people running the massive and pre-eminent R&D at Monsanto today are Borlaug acolytes. Without Borlaug's unique ability for turning theory into practice, and for inspiring others to focus on science that was aimed at solving real problems - not academic and irrelevant problems - there would be a lot more people starving in the world today.

The assorted and sundry Luddites, and scientific illiterates here, who howl, whine and moan about things they don't understand, are oblivious to the fact that when they condemn the work of Monsanto, they are also condemning the life's work of Norman Borlaug - a humble American who saved more lives than any other human who has ever lived.

Without the biotechnology of Beachell and Borlaug, the Green Revolution would not have happened, and a billion less people, or more, would not be alive today because their ancestors would have starved to death as infants or young children.
